It's been almost 20 years since I last owned and shot a gun. Getting back into it now and was looking for recOmmendations on bags to use for carrying to/from the range.

I am in Cali. I need to transport unloaded and in the trunk. Not sure if required to be locked but I travel with guns locked.

I think in California you have to Fed Ex the slide and barrel to the range, and send the frame to the range via USPS, and then use UPS to send the ammo. Once you're done shooting you have to do the same in reverse back to your house. You can carry the empty brass in your car.

There' no legal method to transfer both the weapon and the ammunition in my car since they can't be locked in separate areas since there are no separate areas. With the CCW, I'll actually be allowed to have the gun and the ammo in the same backpack in the car without risking a felony conviction.
