Hi.  Several FOG members have done this.  I have a Clearvue mini cyclone plus a small barrell for the shavings, but haven't had time to put it together.   People who have them like the combo.   Do a search for "cyclone" and you should see several posts.

I tried using plastic 5 gallon paint containers/pails on my CT-22 - but one after another they crumpled (along with my ego). They must be using something a little stronger in their design. I am currently using a small steel trashcan that makes a 'pop' when the unit is fired up. It has not crumpled yet - but I have a few other things to try when it does.
One suggestion I received (and my next to try) was to glue two 5 gallon pails together, one inside the other. That might work. If the bottom is strong enough cut off the bottom of the outer pail to reduce the height. I also have a builders tube to cut up and try but that needs a bottom on it as well as a top.

A builders tube will work and not collapse. I used one with a bottom made of MDF and epoxied into place. I also shrinked wrapper it to mitigate leaks. Since it has no weight to speak of it was not very stable. I have since switched to a plastic 55 gal drum with a modified (cut away) top. I salvaged it from work and it works very well but it is pretty silly looking.  :-[

I was thinking if you welded up a cage for the inside of the container made from rod, and put it inside the a liner bag, it would both prevent container collapse and keep the bag from being sucked. I think I read this somewhere but can't remember where.

This is actually exactly how the collection drum of my cyclone is built. It has the advantages that you can see when it gets full and you have all the dust in a bag but it is some what messy to remove the bag from the skeleton.

Do you wiggle it out before you pull the bag, or take the whole thing outside and then pull it out?

I do have to wiggle it out wether I do it inside or outside and no matter what its a real mess.
I am doing that inside armed with my respirator and then  run the air filter for a while.

Next house I will make sure my shop is at the floor level and far away from neighboors so I can do that outside
