Anyone use bhs 65mm with ball detent bits?

I bought the bhs65 today because I thought it was for 1/4" hex ball detent bits.  The bits fit in the holder but it seems to really be made for 1" wire detent bits as the ball detent bits flop around like a fish on dry land.  I was hoping this was my solution for the Kreg system where I've been swapping the drill bit and long robertson drive in and out of the jacobs chuck.  Is there a better solution out there?

i think kreg (tool company not honey do) has a set like this. it has the drill the robertson drive and a quick change holder

I also found bit wobble in the BHS 65 adaptor to be pretty sad and never bothered picking one up. One solution is to make your own. Wera has a 75mm version of their Rapidaptor (889/4/1 Rapidaptor Universal Bit Holder) and if you have access to a drill press and some files you can carefully mill it to work with the Centrotec chuck. You'll be making a detent further up the shaft as well as very slightly rounding over the hex edges. Rapidaptors are great and lock onto 1" wire detent driver bits or longer ball detent power bits equally well with no run out at all.

If you choose to make your own, just make sure the shaft of the adaptor you're using has a length of at least 30mm so it slips fully through the Centrotec chuck and into the output drive of your Festool drill.

The BHS 65 is not designed for ball detent bits, as you found. It is a great bit holder for the classic 1/4" hex, wire detent driver bits though. It has a strong magnet and a positive wire detent collar.

I've gotta correct myself. I was just slapping some cabinets together and realized it's a Wiha Rapidfix I've got that has no run-out on the ball detent bits. The Wera Rapidaptor has a bit of play with ball detents but is excellent for wire detents.

Anyway..

I'm going to return the bhs65 and try "centrotecing" one of the adapters you suggested.  It seems odd that Festool would not have a ball detent chuck available, especially since the eccentric chuck holds them.
