Apollo hvlp

Hey guys

From the reading I have been doing here on the FOG, I can see that many of the members are into making pieces and doing finishes. I am wondering if anyone has any experience with Apollo hvlp systems. We picked up a 1050VR today, and I have to say that I dont think I have ever been so excited about an hvlp.

I thought you had a 5 stage HVLP?
I don't have one, but it was a toss up between this the Graco and the Fuji 4 stage based on my research.
What's so exciting about it?

We do have a Graco 9.5, which is a 5 stage. Always looking for new benchmarks.

Apollo is a small company that makes hvlp only. It really shows in the design and features. The docking station for one. Very simple, handy feature. Digital display for tracking and documenting settings in different materials. Fan control pattern at the front of the gun. The most badass filtration system I have seen. Smooth variable pressure control. Lightweight and well balanced.

I have found that often with hvlp, I like either the turbine or the gun, but rarely both the same.

The gun on this is as functional and user friendly as it is pretty. Very precision crafted system.

I have been very happy with Apollo HVLP  products. I got an Apollo 1100 turbine & 5000 gun in 1992. I sprayed 100s of gallons with that setup. Early this year at the Indy Woodworking show I got my first in person look at the 1050VR & 7500 gun. I was very impressed with it, so I ordered it. The new gun  is a huge improvement over the 5000 model. The compact 1050VR turbine is also very nice.

They're real nice ... don't think anyone distributes Apollo Sprayers here in Oz. I recently spent about $700 on a Wagner locally, but it's still in the box - the urge hasn't hit me to do anything with it yet!

Think I'll look into these Apollo jobbies - they appear to have a lot of refinement about them.

If you are experimenting with Spray Guns for waterbase you might want to try the CAT guns. I have a Devilbiss Transtech with a pressure which also works great. But for most jobs I use my CAT gravity gun with the PPS system.

When I went to engineering college 23 years ago my kind boss gave me an old Fiat that needed repainting.

I borrowed a cheap no name spray gun and did the job myself.

From that day I realized that spray painting was a job for pro's and I promised myself never ever to try it again.  [embarassed]

(Well..I could of course lie to myself and say that the result would have been far better if I had an expensive spraygun and bothered to read the manual.)
