Assembly Squares

Does anyone have experience with Lee Valley's assembly squares? Are they strong? Are they as tough as the Woodpeckers Clamping squares.
I would buy the Woodpeckers squares again they are sold out and I can't wait till their next run.

They look very much like the same product I bought at a woodworking show a couple of years ago. The company that made those had been selling them for years at the shows. They are also aluminum and very strong. I usually just clamp them to the sides I'm gluing together with spring clamps ( but get the steel spring clamps - Pony I think - because the plastic clamps will break eventually). The squares do work well but you probably need more than two. I found that 4 ideal as you can work on all 4 corners. Anyway, they are very square as far as I can tell (if they are the same as those I bought).

I have the ones from a woodworking show. Made from aluminum. I bought 8 and have never used more than 4. They do work well, no issues with strength. The company name is Jevon's tool company.

JC  I have been using these for years now and never had any issues at all, I agree on the metal spring clamps being used as they have better holding power. I only use one per corner and I get nice square drawers or face frames.

I build custom stretcher bars for artists for a living and this one of the most used tools in my shop for clamping the miters to assemble. Have used them for probably about 10 years and swear by them. Worth every penny.

What are stretcher bars? Thank you for your response. I have been convinced. Going to Lee Valley tomorrow to pick up 3 pairs.

I have a set of those from LV and also the red woodpecker corner squares.  Both work the same way.  Highly recommend the LV ones for simplicity, light weight and low cost.  Woodpecker ones are really nice but I cringe when I have dropped them!

Stretcher bars are what artists stretch canvas around for paintings.

I like the Jevon squares for casework assembly.  I use spring clamps to hold the square and each panel in place as a third hand so that I can concentrate on fastening.

I've used them with pocket holes. The problem is that, even with the good steel spring clamps, the joint slips very slightly sometimes as the screw goes in. They are square, though, and do help with a keeping things square while gluing.
