I've had some inquiries lately about assortments of the new Granat, foam-backed Hand Sanding Pads. The full rolls have a couple-hundred sheets in them and my customers who aren't in production environments can't see needing that many of each grit.

In the continuing spirit of accommodating wishes through my Sandpaper Assortments, I am considering making assortments of the new Granat, foam-backed Hand Sanding Pads.

I'm curious how much interest there is in such assortments and how best to configure them. The range of grits available are P120, P150, P180, P240, P320, P400, P500, P600, and P800.

Since Granat is good for prep' and finishing, I can see the logic in offering a complete assortment but I am considering one or more subsets. My initial thought is about 25 sheets of each grit.

I'd like to gain input on what my fellow FOG members think would be logical assortment(s). I'm thinking:
  • Full Assortment - 25 each of P120, P150, P180, P240, P320, P400, P500, P600, and P800
  • Prep' Assortment - 25 each of P120, P150, P180, P240
  • Finish Assortment - 25 each of P320, P400, P500, P600, and P800

I'd really like to hear your feedback.

Thanks in advance,

Tom

That would be great Tom.  I would suggest 20 of the prep and 10 of the finish.  Are these coming on a systainer or loose?

JGA.

Excuse me, what's that horrible green writing at the top of your website? Please remove immediately!

I'd definitely go for the full assortment; I just bought a few of another brand for finishing, but I'll go through them :)

Do you have some kind of insert for a Systainer for these?  Maybe the insert for LS-130 or RS-2e papers would work.  Dunno.  I might get it in a T-loc depending on insert.

I haven't actually unrolled one of these yet to see how it lays out and what is the best configuration for storage. I guess I'll just go for it and figure it all out. I should have some offerings, probably what I mentioned above w/ and w/o T-Locs once I figure it out. It shouldn't take too long...

I just checked it out and the Domino Systainer is perfect for 25 sheets each of 6 assorted grits. That Systainer is $80. EKAT is down right now so I don't know what it would cost to get just the divider.

I'm still open to suggestions and looking at options...

I discovered with the Domino Systainer that 25 sheets fits kind of tight so I'm revising it to 20 sheets. In light of that and what Jesus mentioned, I revise my thoughts and now I'm thinking:
  • Full Assortment - 20 each of P120, P150, and P180 Plus 10 each of P240, P320, P400, P500, P600, and P800
  • Prep' Assortment - 20 each of P120, P150, P180, P240, P320, and P400
  • Finish Assortment - 20 each of P240, P320, P400, P500, P600, and P800
All three either with or without the T-Loc - with it, add $80.

EDIT: revised Finish Assortment (not available in Finland)

How the heck do you navigate to the sandpaper assortment link from your sites home page. Been wishing for one for quite some time now.

When I was hunting down an assortment pack the easiest way to find it was to look up your posts here for direct links.  Not sure if I'd need any of these granat assortments myself, I use the 6" round abrasives along with a

for hand sanding,  [big grin]

I'm working on making my website more easily navigable. If you pick the big "FESTOOL" logo on the right, it takes you to the Festool page. From there, you have a drop-down at the top with categories, among which is "Sandpaper Assortments". Everyone is welcome to call me at any time and I'm happy to help. The number below rings my desk and mobile.

These sheets have a foam backing and are designed to actually be used "by Hand". Those hand sanding blocks are pretty nice also...

Hey Tom,
Great idea.  I'll go for the full assortment first, then probably replenish with just the prep.  I find a little goes a long with the finish sandpaper.

BTW, I would prefer the prep assortment that ends at 240, finer than that is finish territory for me.

I'd be all over the prep assortment. Think I know someone else that's interested in that, too.  [big grin]

For anyone that hasn't seen/tried these, they are 4 1/2" x 4 3/4" Granat sheets, with 3/16" of foam backing. They're great for spot sanding, or folding into a moulding profile. At least that's what I've used the few I have for. The foam backing gives you a nice grip, too.

I store my collection of Granat sheet in a systainer 3,  What I have done is to sepeate the sheets into sets of two and lay them flat.  The sytainer in the picture below is holding just under 200 sheet of Granat foam backed sandpaper:

Thanks, Frank!

I didn't think of that and it makes it easier - less folding for me. I'll just load them in a Sys 2 as a 2-sheet z-fold. Problem solved.
