Hi all,

I have an opportunity to acquire a vintage ATLAS 6001 jointer (6"), but I know very little about this particular brand. I know that some members here are big fans of older US built jointers, and was wondering if anyone has an opinion on this particular brand and model (and, perhaps, what I should be looking out for). Asking price is around $100.

Thanks!

I believe Atlas manufactured a number of tools for Craftsman, way back when, other than that I'm not too familiar with the brand.

They made good tools - I used one of their drill presses, scroll saws and always wanted one of their lathes.

I believe they were sold only through Sears in the early days.

Can you try it out with some wood?  Take a straight edge with you and a feeler gauge with you if you can.  that would let you check the table for alignment end to end and across the table.

For $100, not much risk!

Hey guys,

Thanks for the input. Went over today and took a look. The jointer needs to be cleaned up, but it worked really well. It will be a nice project to bring it back to its former glory.
