Attic Storage -- show us what your set-up looks like

I really enjoy using the attic storage system for my most commonly used bits plus some additional "nice to haves" that when you need them and you discover you have it, it's like winning the lottery.

Murphy!  I thought this thread was about storage in a house's attic.  Doh!

Me too!  I decked half of our garage attic last year with OSB. When winter is over, will do the rest.  A few years ago I installed a pull-down ladder.  (I'm getting too old to be hauling my wife's enormous collection of Christmas decorations, in about 40 plastic totes, in and out of our basement crawl space.)  :)

What is the bit in the bottom left of the attic, [member=11629]GarryMartin[/member]?

If you mean the very bottom left, it's one of the Festool Deburring countersinks from the Installer Set. If you mean the third in from the left, that's the Veritas Tapered Snug Plug cutter.

Thanks - I have not seen a "deburring" bit in NA. Very cool.

Hey [member=6605]ScotF[/member]
FWIW...here's a shot of 7 different sized countersinks. Far left is a Norseman in moly tool steel, the next 4 are from Keo and are made of cobalt, while the last 2 on the right are from Festool. All are meant to be used on wood, plastics and non-ferrous metals such as aluminum, copper or brass.

Because the Keo's are cobalt, they could be used for lightly deburring steel or stainless. Most countersinks are available with 60º, 82º or 90º ends. All of those pictured are 82º which is used for the common flathead screw.

The countersinks Cheese is showing are Weldon style and common for working non ferrous metal and are available in lots of different sizes from metal working distributors.

I like te attic storage too. Very handy for the most used bits and drills.

A small improvement in my opinion would be that the bit holders would move the opposite direction. That way the heavy bits won't come loose when opening the systainer if the compartment isn't closed. Happened to me a few times  [unsure]

Thanks for the front picture! Very helpful. I looked like a tenon cutter or something from the back view.

Hi. So my attic looks like they do in real life. A huge mess...;)

Contents in the smaller segments might switch around a bit, but I really like to have the "ultimate" needs in order in the center and then be able to just throw anything I might need right in.

You can pop out the tilting racks and put them back in the other way if you want...

Looks like you can pack quite a bit in there...good stuff!

Here is my Attic setup. I haven't finished the proper printing for the drills, 5mm is actually 6mm and 6mm is actually 7mm.

Errr... you can't Chris; at least I can't. My trays are shaped for orientation, and the racks themselves have different sized holes on one side than the other, so I can't put mine in the other way around. Do you have something different? Have you tried?

Don't turn around the trays - just the tilting bit holders that fit inside the tray.

Tee, Lee Valley sells Tanos systainers, including a SysII with attic lid and also the Bit Storage Tray for Systainer® Case with Lid Storage.  .  You can either do a search for Tanos which wil show the entire line, or the fore mentioned discription.  I've bought quite a few Tanos and other items such as their Veritas® Mk.II Honing Guide System.  Great vendor three thumbs up!!  [big grin]

I didn't realize these existed. A conversation in 2013/4 found nothing like this.

I'd buy the 769094, but it's another one of Festool's infuriating NAINA decisions, and I'm not paying upwards of $100 for a grey market import either.

I think we must have different trays - the holes in each side of mine are different sizes so you can't turn them around.  [crying]

I tried it already and there is no way to switch the tray or bit holder without a modification.  And if you do a modification the little handle on the front side of the tray disappears under the cover so it is not easily removed without removing the cover. So I'll just have to remember to close the cover [big grin]

Greeting Ocram

(I hope my writing is okay)

You guys got me again, I got one coming. It should be here Monday, along with some festool bling to take to the states with me

[member=50443]vogel61[/member] I'm curious, you say that you didn't finished the proper printing. Do you mean that you found a way to print the labels on the bit holders yourself?
