Guys,
I have been watching and wanting 1 of these Moxon Style vices for a few months.... No time to make and I don't have a lathe anymore or another way to thread and tap wood. I just got my vice from a true craftsman out of Vermont. His eBay seller I'd Knappwoodworking

I am just a first time buyer who thinks he charges a fair price for an awesome vice. I was looking at the Sjobergs smart vice- this is so much nicer.

Looks well made, particularly the screws. I am wondering what the purpose of the gaps in the rear jaw are for. Is it to drop chisels in whilst working, etc.?

Also, I would consider planing the bevel on the front jaw back closer to the opening as I find when sawing or using a rasp I am often scraping the leading edge of the front jaw because I am sometimes using the tool on a 45 degree angle to the vise.
