Axminster CT330 planer + shelix head

Hello out there,

Just wondering if any one else would see an interest in getting Byrd to
produce a shelix helical / spiral / segmented / square-cut carbide insert / …
head for the Axminster CT330 lunch box planer.

Us europeans have trouble getting a 230 V lunchbox planer native with
this kind of setup. The Axminster looks like a promising solution
(though somehow expensive). Any thoughts?

I would be ready to undertake the timely and costly process to get
the job done (machine downtime, risks, etc) more easily if I know
it is of any use to others as well.

Could be a way to get production price down, too?

You might want to see if you can get accurate dimensional specs for the CT330 cutterhead. While there are some distinct  functional and aesthetic differences between the axminster CT330 planer and the Dewalt DW733/734 planers, there are a number of similarities that make me wonder if the Axminster planer, and the current Dewalt planers, are both being manufactured by the same OEM in Taiwan, and might share parts like the cutterhead.

I nention this because I believe a Shelix cutterhead is, or at least was, made for the Dewalt DW734.

Thanks Rip Van Winkle! that is an amazingly good news. Would be great
if it could turn right, first because there are numerous accounts
on the quality of the upgrade.

I'd just need to get my hands on the dimensions of the CT330 head
dimensions for a quick check…

A little update here.

In the last few days, I've been exchanging with both Byrd Tools and Axminster on this matter.
I hereby thank both of them for their time.

The first obvious point is that the CT330 cutter head is different from the DeWalt 733/734.

The second point is… somehow unexpected.

Apparently, after several inquiries, including mine, and despite the initial negative answer,
Axminster is now considering getting the CT330 a spiral cutter head.

It is still early to know if it will be proposed as an retrofit, an option or a new model, but things
could be moving in the next year. I guess an expression of interest from the users' standpoint
could help… who knows, it reads like, to their credit, they listen to the customers ;-)
