Well a quick question for those with azek experience. My favorite architect  [crying] has spec'ed 4'x20' sheets of azek for a soffit application. It is on the underside of a cantilevered  second floor deck. Facing north. total soffit area is 8'x40'. I'm very worried about the expansion/contraction of these full sheets. Anybody deal with this before? Project is in the northeast. Thanks

First, we;com to the FOG  [welcome].

Secondly,  yes Azek will expand.  I would highly recommend that you protect yourself and contact Azek directly for guidance.  If I am not mistaken, 18 feet of Azek will expand 3/8 of an inch

I live in nj and I use azek alot. What we do for expansion in our soffits is batton strips every few feet. We leave a gap rip a piece of azek and nail it over the gap. It makes for a really cool look and it's functional. I would defiantly send and email and a sketch to azek and get their thoughts. Those sheets are going to be heavy I didn't even know they made them that big. I just got a 4x10 sheet 1" thick. I couldn't handle it myself.

thanks for the reply. I believe these sheets are only 1/2", but I know they"ll be a bugger. The same house has Azek fascia boards, and the expansion/contraction over an 18' length alarms me.

I've used a ton of Azek sheets and I've done more or less what Dave has described.  Calling Azek first is very good advice.
