Back to Basics

My first ventures into wood working were in making some rustic furniture, twig style chairs, and a birch log bed.  Round tenon joints for all, usually riven and drawknifed slats for seats.  Had a couple of books somewhere, and I was making my living for several years as an outdoor instructor.

So when we were base camped it was a cool way to pass some free time and I only needed a few tools I could easily carry with me.

Ended up having a guy from Manhattan offer me 800.00 for one of my chairs, I thought that was a fortune at the time!

I've thought it would be fun to play with some of that stuff again and see what I might come up with, just for a lark and a mental break.

There are some great videos on Youtube of wooden shovel makers, stone boat makers, and some Austrian guys making cattle troughs and spring heads with very basic tools.  Interesting to watch and see just how fast they could move along.
