Bandsaw recommendations

The 14" refers to the distance from the blade to the arm of the bandsaw. You also have resaw height. That's from the table to the highest possible point the blade guides can go.

My Grizzly is a 6" resaw in stock form. I bought the 6" riser kit which now gives me 12" of resaw capability.

FB510 is the biggest Felder bandsaw available without going to a 3 phase supply or inverter.  14 inch resaw capacity and weighs 550lbs so stable as a rock. The ceramic guides are really easy to set up and drift is unheard of

That may hold true for your part of the world but in Canada the FB510 and the FB610 are both 220V single phase, its not until you get to the FB 710 that you have to go to 3 phase.  I have one of the original FB600 and its also 220V single phase. You are right about the ceramics.

[member=15545]Lbob131[/member] generally when folks are talking numbers on a band saw, the size refers to the rip capacity or the depth from the inside edge of the blade to the front of the "throat" in the back.  For re-saw capacity most will say "under the guides" or re-saw height in the specs.

The 14" or similar in metric refers to the diameter of the bandsaw wheels and has nothing to do with resaw height. So a 14" Laguna SUV has 14" diameter wheels and a Felder FB610 has 610mm diameter wheels.

You beat me ... yes, exactly!!

The wheel  diameter  and rip capacity between  the blade  and frame are going to be pretty close  in size.
