We were working on and basement remodel that included a home theater.  An L shape sectional couch was the primary seating but we wanted to maximize our seating.  A bonus would be to have someplace to sit down and eat.  A bar/countertop seemed like a simple solution.

The start:

A simple base with a butcher block top was the plan.  The top was upgraded to walnut.  Heavy duty L brackets for support. A small "table" was added to fill in the gap. A foot rail was included to improve the seating comfort.

Tim,
It's not going to come apart!  Very structurally sound and a nice finish.  Great job.

Looks great!  What did you finish it off with?  Looks like a satin to me from the pics.

I used Waterlox on the walnut top.  The support base was stained and then multiple coats of oil based polyurethane were sprayed.
