Hi fellow Festool fans.

Just a quick heads up for anyone looking for some new Festool goodies. FFX are having a clearance sale because they are moving or something.

They have some good deals on. I just got a domino xl with both sets of dominos 12/14mm and 8/10mm for just over £880.

Sale on for a few days still.

Ollie

Ollie,

This has been going on for a while now, and has been mentioned on here too. The pricing isn't that great (in terms of a 'sale', anyway) - the prices on the Festool are no lower than they were before.

I find Powertool Supplies are usually the cheapest, and some of the items on there are better priced than the FFX sale.

Axminster are worth a look too. Picked up a OF 1010 last week for £6 less than N&B / Powertool Supplies. That was with free postage which is usually £10 from N&B for where I live (the island in the box at the top of the UK weather map).

You got lucky there, I think. Axminster usually sell at or very near full retail price, but they have had a sale on some stuff which has brought the prices down. Surprised Axminster don't charge extra for highlands & islands, though!

Word has it Axminster have consciously been trying out more competitive pricing of late. Some prices are better than they were and postage deals they've introduced are much better too. They certainly ain't the cheapest for everything but they got my order for the 1010. How much profit they made off the sale including free postage... I'm not so sure!

Axminster seem to always have good prices on Festool routers. The of1400 is the  cheapest I've seen it from them

I think you might be right there, I looked back through my purchases and found I bought my 1400 from them, which surprised me as they are usually a lot more than N&B who are almost always the best priced for accessories

No, free just not next day delivery up here. D&M don't charge for delivery either and I often recieve goods the next day.

Chatting to the manger in my local Axminster the other day about pricing and yes they have dropped there prices on some Festool gear to compete with mainly nuts and bolts. Some items are cheaper from Axminster like the cms of last time I checked.

To keep on he thread topic ffx seem to pump out all this 'sale clearance' talk but are still more expensive, plus I find they don't carry that much Festool stuff in stock.

How are you able to get sales on Festool in the UK?  In the States we have set pricing and rarely anything goes on sale.

How ironic, A German company that forces fixed pricing in North America and Australia can't impose fixed pricing in their own country.

Ffx, Axminster and power tool supplies are the 3 cheapest. I'm currently price some new tools through all 3. I'm buying a few items which each supplier has different components cheaper than the next so it works out cheaper to use all 3 suppliers for to get the best deal. Does anyone know if you can buy the cms with the router module and sliding fence as a kit?

It's probably never been a better time to get Festool bargains in the UK, with bulk buying discounts for the dealers who have the deepest pockets (or biggest overdrafts, who knows?) and very aggressive pricing. It is a golden time for the Festool end user.

At the moment, excellent pricing should be available on 18v cordless, EHL planers, Dust Extractors and ETC EC sanders as these are all on offer to dealers at the moment on bulk buy deals.

So if you need any of the above then now is probably the time to purchase.

Things are going to change though, without giving away details we should see smaller dealers being able to compete a little better with the big boys, but this may also mean prices from dealers rising a little as the bulk buy stocks begin to be sold through. List prices are not due to change much if at all but lower discounts will inevitably mean slightly higher pricing in the long term.

Of course we'll still be benefiting from using (and selling in our case) in my opinion the best tools available with the best 'Service All Inclusive' back-up in the market.

That's the view from this side of the counter anyway but we shall see how it goes.

Best regards

Warren

[size=13pt]Warren, you seem to be hinting at some form of retail price maintenance which few customers are rejoicing about down here since it was introduced in April this year following an exemption given to Festool Aust. It too was designed to ensure some dealer equity. Funny the bad dealers still give crap service, the great dealers are still great. All we the customers have got is more competitions, but no dealer discounts and certainly no further quarterly specials from Festool.

Warren, I understand if you feel for a number of reasons that you can not respond to this.

Nothing like that is in the offing, don't worry. I'm sure there will be plenty of competition in the UK market with dealers always free to sell at the price they choose, whether it be high, low or even below cost, it will be up to the dealer to sell the products he has purchased from Festool for any price he/she likes.

However, consider this ficticious scenario: A dealer has say half a million pounds available, either cash or borrowed. That dealer could purchase large quantities of tools at a better rate, a lower price, a bigger discount on every product in the price list. Another dealer has five thousand pounds available, either cash or borrowed and could probably buy two or three products at a better rate, a lower price, a bigger discount. The first dealer can then sell all but two or three products he bought at a lower rate than the smaller dealer can buy from the manufacturer, therefore dominating the marketplace and pushing other dealers out of the market. It is totally fair for this to happen and the smaller dealer doesn't complain, he just wishes he had more money in the first place.  [smile] The manufacturer benefits from huge sales growth as the dominating dealers sell their products for less and become more competitive in the marketplace. So the manufacturer is happy, the big dealer is happy and the end users get a bargain.

Where does this lead though, I can only guess. Fewer dealers probably, and most disillusioned? Less exposure in retail environments as the product is perceived by dealers as non-profit? Fewer end users see the product in their local stores and things start to stagnate.

But this is all wrong surely? We want a well stocked dealer in every major town, enthusiastic about the brand and being rewarded with a reasonable profit for their efforts. It grows the customer base, results in a happy manufacturer, dealer and end-user with machine accessories and consumables readily available and within easy reach.

How to achieve it is the tricky bit. I don't know if the new changes are designed to do this but if all the dealers buy at the same price regardless of quantity then maybe just maybe some of the dealers who are thinking of moving the brand towards the exit will wait and see if the product becomes more attractive to sell. I hope so, the brand is awesome and wide and deep market penetration is still a long way off, and I think having one or two dominant dealers will stall progress in the UK.

Right, I'm getting giddy up here on my soapbox. [big grin]

Best regards
