Maybe Christian can settle this for me:
I'm very excited about the MFK 700 trim router - this winter I was doing a lot of on-site cabiinetry and trim installation, and raised my hands to the sky (okay, the ceiling) and said "Hear me, Festool - I would like a laminate trimmer with dust collection!!!".
So - here it is. But there is only one problem - that 1.5 degree base. I was really excited to see the horizontal base application, as I'd just spent several harrowing hours trimming maple nosing flush to plywood with a bottom-bearing bit balanced on that 3/4" edge. This tool would have been just the thing! HOWEVER -- I nearly never apply thin edgings to plywood. I routinely apply 3/4, most often 3/4 x 1 1/4 for shelving. That 1.5 degree base isn't going to cut it for my needs, for several reasons I won't bore you with.
The upshot? I've heard rumors that the router will soon be available as just the unit with the offset base, no horizontal base. That would be great - Buy the basic kit, buy the zero-degree horizontal base I want, and the edge guide that I'll need instantly if I don't buy it, and then I'm all set. I really don't care for the notion of paying $100 + for an accesory I'm sure I'll have little use for.
So - level with me. If Festool is planning to release this tool as a basic package, I'd really like to know. I'm willing to wait for it if it is, in fact, forthcoming. If this is only a rumor, I'd like to know that, too. I won't be as happy shelling out for the extra base, though my irked feelings would quickly dissolve once I started to use the tool...
Thanks in advance!
