Guys,

I'm looking at purchasing some Festool's. I have never seen any of their stuff up close and personal, but I've been researching and their stuff looks great, and I believe I might be getting a bargain........BUT am I??

The Basis Plus System seems to have been replaced with CMS, so I guess I am, looking for some guidance. I don't mind buying out of date stuff if the price is right. However I am reading there might be conflicts if I decide to add on bits and pieces at later stages, and the new stuff won't work with the old. For Example, there is one saw rail involved, will I be able to buy a new one? are they they same as the old ones? will they connect up?

I'm unsure as to exactly what I am getting as the internet seems to be scarce on info on the old stuff, and not knowing much about it, it gets confusing!

I am waiting on an exact list, but in essence, this is what I think is involved. All been used for light DIY work, seen some pics and look in decent shape

A plunge saw with rail. I've no idea model no.
An OF 2000E router - apparently never used
A Jigsaw... again no idea what one.

Told that all the above come in their systrainer boxes.

A basic table
Module insert for trimming saw,
6A Router module extension table - I think this is the router insert with fence etc, plus the V650 extension table
Trimming attachment.??
Guide rail.
Angle stop

It is worth remembering that I am a novice, but at the same time fairly handy with my hands. I like to do DIY, and want to do it right, so no harm in getting the right tools. But I am a bit lost when it comes to a lot of the technical information, so please keep it simple.

Lucky guess?  [scared]

That and i saw your post over on uk workshop earlier  ;D

If your not sure if the CMS components are compatible with the old system I would call Festool UK and talk to them. they will honestly answer all your questions.

Just an update on what is actually involved in the deal. The guy has just given me an all in price for everything. I'm sticking some prices in here, but these are prices I made up. . to try and see if the deal is worth it... his price is actually a good more.

€200 The Basis Plus System basic Unit 1A
€150 Module insert for trimming saw,
€200 Basis 6A Router module
€100 Router extension table V650
??? some sort of Trimming attachment rail 2m long????? - not the rail for the plunge saw

€200 ATF 55E plunge saw with rail apx 5ft long
€200 An OF 2000E router - apparently never used
€50 PS 200E Jigsaw

all the above come in their systrainer boxes.

A Double hose for Vacuum but no vacuum.

So I plan to offer €1,100. Don't think he will go for it, but am I overpricing thins or underpricing them? help and guidance appreciated

I have signed up over on the Festool Owners Forum so will see how I get on there

Well, I would look up prices for used current models of the machines and evaluate is it worth your euros to buy older gear.

Compare to CMS-OF set with a OF2200 router, CMS-TS55R set with TS55R saw and a Carvex 420 jigsaw. If you end up with something closer to 50% of the current equivalent gear used price total and the machines are as unused as you describe above they might well be worth considering.

I have the current kit so can't guide you on the compatibility of the older basis system other than they look very different to current CMS modules & edge profiles so most likely there will be compatibility issues with CMS parts, but you can still buy new parts to the Basis system today.

Hi

Regarding compatibility between the two systems according to a pdf I found on the Swedish Festool website it says (translated):
"The modules for Basis Plus except module 1A can be combined with the CMS base unit".
"All CMS modules except CMS TS-75 fits Basis Plus base unit."

Welcome to me to the FOG... I truly am a member now as I made the purchase yesterday.  got everything mentioned for €1,250.  I think I did pretty well out of it, but now I will just have to figure out how to use it all! ;) [eek]

Considering how old the Basic table is by now, I think 1250 is slightly on the expensive side.

I have about 6 years experience now buying and selling used Festools, I know what this stuff generally costs here in Holland, and for how much you can get the more modern versions of this all. Prices in Ireland will probably be a bit higher due to lower availability.

€200 The Basis Plus System basic Unit 1A I'd say 150
€150 Module insert for trimming saw, 100
€200 Basis 6A Router module 125
€100 Router extension table V650 50
??? some sort of Trimming attachment rail 2m long????? - not the rail for the plunge saw50, probably the extension for cross cutting longer pieces. Attach it to the left of the table and get chopsaw capability

€200 ATF 55E plunge saw with rail apx 5ft long reasonable if in good condition, but not great
€200 An OF 2000E router - apparently never used very good price
€50 PS 200E Jigsaw very good price if still in good order

all the above come in their systrainer boxes. They should.

A Double hose for Vacuum but no vacuum. 35
My estimates add up to 960 for all this. With some shopping around I think I could get the more modern CMS versions for about the same money. And a TS55 for the same price as the ATF 55. Only the router is an absolute steal, especially if it's never been used. As for the jigsaw, well, you never know. If he only asks 50 for it, it's probably pretty beat up.

I would not buy this for 1250. I could get all modern versions of this for the same money, except for the newer OF2200 router which is still quite expensive used.

Key of course is availability. Here in Holland we have a very big market for used Festools. Ireland probalby not so. Getting all this together in one buy could be considered convenient and is also worth something.

Jeez...now ya tell me!!!

BTW those were prices I was estimating, he just wanted €1,500 for the lot and hadn't broken it down.  I had researched and come up with those individual prices.  like you say though, they are not easily got and the prices I had gotten were US, UK & European prices mostly from Amazon and ebay etc.  shipping to Ireland would have been expensive though.
Also as you mentioned, there was an element of convenience about buying it all together down the road so for me that was why I went the extra couple of quid...

pics will follow over the weekend.

Oh and the bloody saw did't have a sustainer bad.  Does anyone know where I might get an old version to suit it?  they are not the TLOC boxes

Keep an eye out on ebay and do a general google search for classic systainers. Some dealers might have old stock.
You could also place a wanted ad here and uk workshop in the relevent sections. :)

come on now. pics or it didn't happen

well here are the pics guys, few things i have no idea what they are for, especially whats in last pic so feel free to call me stupid and let me know what to do with them!

will get the table all set up this week and see how she operates, but there is a brand new blade in the saw, original Festool blade! along with plenty of spare jigsaw blades.  I've used the Router, wow, it's so smooth, no rattle at all, and the jigsaw cuts like a knife through butter

Center of the last pic looks like a miter gauge that'd slide into a t-slot on most table saws. Looks like its leaning on the fence. I see a push stick and what looks like a splitter. Not sure but those are my guesses!

Yep.  From the top moving clockwise...

  • You have a spare hold down/featherboard that attaches to the fence
  • router fence with the hold down tilt on top
  • the v groove miter fence and guage
  • supplied push stick
  • the main hold down/featherboard.  This slips into the face of the fence
  • riving knife/dust shroud/blade guard

If you look at the parts of a CMS setup, you have a hybrid of the routing accessories and the saw accessories.  Ping the lot of us on this site if you have further questions, a lot of good components for your one stop shop.

cheers.  Bryan.
