Battery charging querie?

When I used to charge Ni-cad batteries, I understood that if you leave them in the charger and switch it off leaving the battery in it, it would slowly discharge.
Is this still true of  lithium iron batteries etc, or is it a myth?
Anyone have any information on this?

I think it varies on make. I would read the charger manual as some used to go to a trickle charge. Then then likes of the makita lxt charger continue to cool the battery once charged. With my makitas i often leave them in the charger for hours just to completely cool down.
