Battery problem

Weird -- my 6.2Ah BT battery will not work with the HKC.  The battery life indicator on the tool comes on as a solid red line when I load the battery and pull the trigger.  Saw does not move.  But the battery works with every other cordless tool, including as the sole battery powering my TSC.  HKC works fine with every other battery as well.  It's just the pairing of that particular tool with that particular battery.  And I've tested it multiple times over the course of several days, including doing a full recharge of that battery after draining it on another tool.

I seem to remember someone else in the not too distant past reporting a similar problem.  Any one have any ideas?

I bought the battery as a stand alone last year when I got the grinder as a bare tool.  I forget -- does the 3 year service guarantee also cover the batteries, because I'll return/exchange it for a new one if it does.

I'd ask the dealer first to exchange it.

"shopfestool.com" says batteries are excluded from warranty, festoolusa.com doesn't mention batteries among the exclusions.

In Germany and UK, batteries are definitely included.

You probably have done so, but you could always carefully blow out the battery bay on tool and battery itself and see if it's a contact issue.

Kind regards,
Oliver

I believe it does Edward. This is what the warranty says:

Excluded from this warranty's coverage are:
1. Accessories and/or attachments, including, but not limited to, saw blades, drill bits, router bits, sanding discs and apparel
2. Tools purchased from outside of the U.S. or Canada
3. Repairs or replacements not performed by an authorized Festool Service Center, outside of routine maintenance as set forth in the instruction manual
4. Parts or components not supplied by Festool or that have been modified
5. Damage caused by misuse, abuse, accident, impact, abnormal wear and tear, improper storage and/or exposure to the elements, or neglect
6. Damage caused by anything other than defects in materials and workmanship
7. Normal adjustments and recommended maintenance as set forth in the tool's instruction manual
8. Damage from the operation of the tool at a voltage or frequency different from the tool's rating, including the use of transformers
9. Damage resulting from the use of any non-FESTOOL accessories or attachments
10. Tools used in high volume industrial applications

Just call Festool.

I remember someone posting something similar and think the outcome was the battery needed an update but no idea how it was done. I remember it because I thought at the time is all this technology really necessary.

Ok, thx.  I'll just take it over to the dealer where I bought it.

AFAIK, at least in the UK, batteries are covered under the 3 year warranty when purchased with the tool.

The batteries can be updated via Bluetooth using your phone and the Festool app.

Just reading about updating batteries makes me go full facepalm. What is this world coming to.

"I'm sorry, I can't work today, I need to update my batteries and the server for the update is down" - Or being held hostage by someone who attacked a manufacturer with ransomware. Like it's happening to Garmin right now.

Festool, please don't take another step in this direction.

Kind regards,
Oliver

What? You didn't ask your robotbutler to arrange a drone pickup and drove to the store yourself?
That's so 2020  [big grin]

I actually have one. Maintains the coffee at a set temperature for a few hours and communicates with my phone and iWatch.

Ah, I see.  Missed that discussion when it first appeared.

I went to the dealer yesterday and they talked to Festool service while I waited -- service told them to send in just the battery, but not the saw.  Sounds like I may have to send in the saw as well at some point.

Some HKC55 has electronics, that don't communicate well with BT battery. I had this problem, and HKC electronics was updated by Festool.

is there any way the end-user can interrogate the batteries / saws - to establish what 'versions' / updates are 'in' them?  I guess not...
Will Festool dealers check that these batteries / saws for updates etc - before selling them?  I guess not...

You can check what the software version is in the batteries and CT's, using the App.

Dealer gave me a new 6.2 BT battery, and it works with the HKC.  They also allowed me to hold onto the old one, so I have an extra battery for every other cordless tool except the saw.

I started this previous thread. After talking to Festool support, I ended up sending in the saw and battery both IIRC. Everything worked when I got them back. They stated that the firmware was updated.
