Bell Forest Products Photo Story

So I needed to do some coursework to maintain my teaching certificate and applied to a graduate fellowship involving writing.  I was accepted and had to do several writing pieces.  For one of the pieces I decided to do a Photo Story on Bell Forest Products (BFP) -- primarily because of my interest in both sawmilling and woodworking.

I posted the BFP Photo Story on the FOG because I've mentioned BFP in a couple of posts where other members were asking about good sources for hardwood.  I posted this in member projects because it was indeed a project, by me, a member of the forum.  The people of BFP felt the final product was accurate and of good quality, so they in turn have posted it on their website here http://www.bellforestproducts.com/videos/ -- my Photo Story is titled Bell Forest Products Photo Story.

DISCLAIMER -- I am in no way affiliated with Bell Forest Products... just wanted to share for those interested in taking a look.

Thanks,

Corey,

Great Job!

I don't know if it is my computer, your audio recording level, or something on the website, but I could barely hear your narrative.  Just thought you would want to know.

Can't wait for your next one!

Peter

Not sure about the volume thing Peter?  I clicked on the link myself and all seemed fine with the volume.

I purchase Hard Curly White Maple from Bell by the 100bd foot and it is always fantastic.

Way cool Corey!
I've gotta go look for the mop, because I drooled through the whole flick!  What great wood!  You are very lucky (or smart) to live in the UP.

Here in the NM desert, a big tree is about six feet high.  We have to import any good wood and selection is limited.  I have been having wood shipped from the east coast, but will definitely consider Bell for my next order.

p.s., When I view a video, there's volume control on the video screen and then on the main screen.  I ran it all the way up on the video screen, but it was still soft, had to go to the main screen to pump it up.  Not a big deal...

Talk to the man and for and extra 25.00-50.00(it's not advertised) they will filter out all the wood to perfection.  I pay him an extra 25.00-50.00 to have ZERO heartwood for the Maple and 100 % two sides perfect so I can split it on the band saw and not worry about cutting anything out of the pieces. It is worth every dime extra in time and material savings. I do buy min of 100bd ft though.

Wait for the sales(every 3-6 months) you can save 25-35 %!

Go north to Cuba and turn right, Jesse.

There are some majestic specimens up there...

Hey Jesse,

Glad you liked it.  I'm thinking one of your custom chairs would look good out of some of BFP's figured red maple or birdseye hard maple.  The stock of flame yellow birch they had was also very impressive.

If you give them a try next time around and talk with them, let them know you learned about them through the Photo Story and maybe they'll give you a discount or something -- but again, I'm not affiliated with them in anyway so no promises.

Thanks,

Corey -

As I wrote in a post recently, I'm looking for a lesser-48 source during my 5-week swing through in about a month.  Thanks very much for referencing Bell - I think I may have to have my route go through Michigan!!!!

Alaska Ranger,

Let me know if you do intend to come through this way.  I can steer you towards some other directions as well if you were looking for a large sum of one particular species native to our area such as hard maple, red maple, red oak, yellow birch, etc.  Regardless, you could have a field day in BFP's warehouse.

I have had a great experience ordering through Bell Forest Products -- bought a few hundred feet of Birds-Eye Maple last year and some soft Maple.  The boards are beautiful and the guys at Bell Forest worked to match color across the boards.  I will order from them again when the time comes.
