Best anchor for installing glass shelves in a tiled shower?

So the wife wants me to install some glass shelves in our shower.  She didn't want niches for some reason...so now I have to install two glass shelves.

Whats the best anchor?.  It's wall subway tile with durock backer.  The shelves will be on opposite wall from shower head, so I'm not too worried about water.

Any opinions are appreciated.

I use the toggler plastic anchors, the snap off kind.  They are also sold under the hilti brand in my area. I love how they hold and are good for a range of depths.

We too use the plastic anchors, that kind that splay at the back.  When we install them, we put a dab of silicone sealer at the head of the anchor so the screw runs through it, and we pack the mount piece with plumbers putty for when the water leaks behind, and it WILL leak!  Oh, and we always use stainless steel screws, always.  If the head of the screw is visible, we use stainless screws coated in the appropriate material.

Thanks guys!

Went with the plastic anchor that splays in the back.  They feel very secure.

Not too worried about water, since it's pretty far from the shower head.  But out a dab oblf silicone on anchor before setting it.  The hole was so tight for the anchor that I don't think any of it even went in the hole.

I like the idea of the plumbers putty, I might take them back off and do that.

Thanks guys, and will post pics of the shelves in a bit.

I install commercial bathroom accessories in all kinds of different walls and find that for something heavy or something that will hold up to a lot of force, like a grab bar, that toggle bolts can't be beat. You have to drill an over sized hole to fit the compressed toggle in but once it goes in its not going to pull out. When your ready to remove it you just back the bolt out and the toggle falls down into the wall cavity out of your way.

Can someone attach the picture I'm on the iPad and don't know how :(

Curious what drill bits and techniques folks are using to put a hole in tile for situations like this.

Nice finished result BTW.

I used a glass/tile bit to cut through the tile, then a masonry bit to cut through the durock.  Worked like a charm.

Got the lettering off of amazon for 19.00 bucks.  Super easy to put on.

Jon- looks good, nice job.

If you're doing ordinary glazed ceramic tile, (won't work on harder tiles) and don't have a glass/tile bit, here's an easy work around.  Put a piece of blue tape on the tile where you need to drill. Mark the location of the holes, then punch them with a sheet rock screw, make sure you penetrate the glazing.  You can then drill the tile and backer with a cheap HSS jobber drill bit.
