I am in the process of building a bookcase that will have solid cherry supports but the shelving will be cherry plywood.  I have used waterlox satin on some other cherry pieces with good results, but I am wondering if there is not something better for this application.  I am open to try brush on, wipe on, spray(I have a HVLP sprayer) or anything else.  thanks for your help

There are some many questions here because it really depends on what you want to achieve or what if any additional color in the cherry.
If you liked Waterloo in the past, why wouldn't you use it again?
I like cherry when it ages naturally, so a coating like Osmo poly x might be a good simple solution.
If grain and figure of the cherry is not well matched, it can look very blotchy and choppy when finished.

Look at oil modified Zar Ultra Max, comes in wipe on and heavier bodies that can be sprayed or brushed.

Zinsser Bullseye SealCoat

Seat Coat is a de-waxed shellac good under all types of varnish coats. It evens out the look of cherry plywood. Divide the quart can by half. Cut the first by 1/1 with alcohol and use that as a first coat. Then use the second coat full strength after sanding. If there is a secret, make sure the sawdust is cleaned off thoroughly with mineral spirits or alcohol before applying any finish. Apply any varnish finish over the shellac.
