What is the best finish for an exterior mahogany door? The doors face east and is under a porch, but gets morning direct sun. We previously used Sikkens Cetol (brown 2 coats and 1 coat clear) and wonder if there are newer stains/paints that give better protection. The surface is now looking a bit powdery white so time to redcoat.

There are several marine finishes that will give good results.  They seem to all have excellent UV resistance.

But note that marine finishes and all exterior grade finishes tend to be softer and more flexible than interior finishes.  This to accommodate changes in temperature and humidity.

It has been many years, but I think I used Interlux (paint, not clear coat).

I don't know if it's available where you are, but I've been using Bondall Monocel Gold Marine Varnish on a lot of my stuff that's heavily exposed, and I'm extremely happy with it so far. Seems to last really well, and also goes on beautifully with a brush and self levels out.

Most of the stuff that withstands weather well is/was intended for use on boats. Spar varnish, etc
The main thing is UV protection. That's the part that breaks down the finish, causing it to fail.
Even the best will need some regular maintenance. Sand and re-coat before the damage shows, this will boost the UV screening.

Used this stuff on a out door live edge slab sign and mesquite poles here in Az. Great UV protection been about 3 years in the Az summer sun (106 + degrees up to 115) and looks good
