best router setup, my thoughts have changed, OF1400 out?

While building my Paulk ultimate work bench I realized that the 1400 has not really a "dust extraction system". I was a renegade for a long while sawing and routing everything without dust extraction, wearing masks, ear protection or otherwise but nothing lasts forever and now being older and less resilient I really appreciate the dust extraction, wear ear, eye protection blah, blah, blah.

I found myself wanting to use my Festo OF1000(dating myself here, bought that 17 years ago) because of the integral dust extraction and I was unable to use extraction at all with 1400 on field slotting cuts because of shank diameter and my bit diameter wouldn't allow.

So admittedly here's my great excuse to buy an OF2200 and like ccarroladams suggests the best router setup is 1010 &2200 or in my case 1000 & (New)2200.

Then I would subsidize the 2200 purchase by selling the 1400(which is what I'll tell my wife but won't really ever sell it). I'd rather endow the 1400 to one of my good guys on my crew than sell it anyway.

Of course if you can only have one it's 1400 and some extra cleanup but with as 1010/2200 setup is there any place for the 1400?

I needed to rout deeper than my OF1010 allowed and thought about the 2200. I also wanted to fit 1/2" bits. I ended up buying a used 1400 for about 500 USD. That's a bit less than the 2200 which is about 1,500 USD her in Sweden.

So, the answer is yes. There is a place for OF1400 if you consider the price. Otherwise I'd like the 2200.

1010  and 2200 owner here and no regrets.  I think it is the ultimate setup and you can accomplish any hand routing task with this combination.

i've got to get a 2200 and now it's justified.  does anyone know if the same edge guide is used for both1400 and 2200,  if the rod spacing the same?

I think that you need to get the edge guide specific to each router.  I would recommend the accessory kit for the OF2200 as it includes the rods, edge guide, rail stop, templates in various sizes and all the different bases that simply pop on and off.  I would also highly suggest a second edge guide so that you can route edge easily by capturing the work between the two guides.  This is a great set-up.  There is space in the bottom of the Systainer of the router for the edge guide.

I have the 1010, 1400, and 2200 and love each of them for different reasons but I find that I reach for the 1400 more often than the other two.

Same here.  Maybe 90% OF1400.
