There are two possible blades, which is better?

Fine 48-Tooth Saw Blade - 495377

Or

Solid Surface / Laminate 48-Tooth Saw Blade - 496309

I think the first is the better option, but wanted to confirm....

Also, I have both a TS55 and TS75. The TS75 has comparable blades (just larger).

Would either saw provide a better cut? Like, the TS75 with a larger blade might have a lower angle of attack and be less likely to chip out... but that's theoretical.

Hi,

I just received the "Solid Surface / Laminate 48-Tooth Saw Blade - 496309".

I will hopefully start cutting my Melamine-plated MDF (double sided) next week.
Since I have the normal blade as well, I should be able to report back with some real world results...

My research so far said that the Laminate blade should give less tear out and also not get dull as quickly as the normal fine tooth.

I too would be interested in your results as melamine is the main material I seem to work with for my projects.

(P.S. I wish I could just "watch" this topic or bookmark it without a post, but the forum doesn't seem to work that way...)

That's been my experience. I used a new fine blade for some melamine cuts before I got the laminate blade, and it did Ok for a little while, but dulled enough to start chipping out after relatively few cuts.

I have yet to need to sharpen the laminate blade, however, and I've easily made 600 ft worth of cuts on it so far.

I have both blades and if I am cutting HPL or Melamine I switch to the Solid Surface / Laminate 48-Tooth Saw Blade and can get very nice cuts. I tie a ribbon onto the handle to remind myself which blade is on when I put it away.

Melamine played mdf if pretty easy to get chip free results. Totally different animal then particle board melamine.

Yes, I know. That's why I'm using it.  [wink]
It was surprisingly cheap, when I bought it. (Bought a couple of whole sheets...)

I never liked particle board. I find it a pain to handle and modify (tear out, screws don't really give me a save feeling..)
I'd rather use melamine plated baltic birch, but that is just tremendously expensive!  [eek]

That is a great tip. I forgot I had the Panther blade on my TS55 the other night and crosscut a piece of plain MDF. Ended up with a ragged cut and somehow the blade chewed up my splinterguard.

Hi all
Looking to also get myself a new blade for my ts55 req.
Will be cutting up new laminated chipboard kitchen 18mm boards (end panels etc) and 38mm worktops. what blade would be best for that for some smooth chip free finishes? I'm uk based and I think some of our codes are different to USA ones?

Thanks

There are also tentu and olshen and others.
A proper shoot out would be useful.

I thought that's what the "Notify" button on the top RHS of the page was for.

Thanks for that - I forgot about it.  [wink]

I like the feature that other forums have of "subscribing/watching" a thread without being notified, so that I can go to one section where I can watch just my favourite threads. Now that I have posted (twice) it will show up in my "participated" section.  [big grin]

Tenryu makes a melamine blade that will fit the 55. I hvent used it yet, so I cant comment on the quality of the cut. Jus saying

Fits in a red 55 too.
It cuts well, but I did not compare a well used blade with the Tenryu... Other than I put in a new blade and it seemed to work better.
