Just noticed this jig for connecting track saw rails & noticed it hasn't been posted yet:

That's a really usefull tool to have for the guide rails. He demos it extremely well in another video I saw of it. It's longer than the one you posted up.

I did check out their website and it's not mentioned, but here's a post they made on youtube:

"Hi Eric, The Betterley StraightLine Connector is $99. Just give us a call to order one (800) 871-7516. Thanks, Tom"

By the way I'm not affiliated with Betterley, just thought it was worth pointing out.

I don't get it.  I've never had issues joining rails and I certainly don't need a $99 jig to do it.  What am I missing here?

I like that! Simple and smart, doubles as a straight edge.... Interesting other products on betterley website also.  A lot of our customers have had errors getting the rails perfect every time. Usually put a track saw on it basically doing the same thing with the two green nobs, but that would be less cumbersome.

I like the fact that it can stabilize the rails and keep them aligned as you flip them over but I don't join rails often enough to justify $99 expense

It would be worth it for me to use on job sites. It would not be worth it if I only worked in the shop where I have a large flat workbench.
I very seldom have anything close to a flat work surface on site.
Now that makes perfect sense.  Thanks.

just got an email back. 99 dollars plus 50 dollars shipping to ireland. im thinking of getting one  for site use as joining on site is a pain.
anyone on this side of the pond want to get one. we could work toghether and save a few pound.

also anyone know of a good package pick up and delivery service that would send it to ireland cheaper.

The least expensive way to ship is US Mail Priority Mail International.

I have The Betterly straight line tool, and it's worth every dime !! It makes joining rails a breeze, and the accuracy and speed it does it at is extremely impressive compared to traditional methods.

Just out of curiosity when I first bought the tool, I checked the accuracy it delivers, and it was consistently within thousandths at the connection......with a simple turn of the two knobs and tightening the rail screws.

Where I found it the most impressive is when I was using the Parallel guides to rip down a bunch of 4x8 sheet goods, and with the constant sliding and moving of the rails, it can, and will cause the rails to become misaligned, and the straightline will suck them right back into place quickly and easily.

I use the connector daily, and i think for anyone who is looking for a easy, fast and extremely accurate method of joining rails, the tool is a must !!!

If anyone wants to see some close up pictures of the tool in action, just let me know !!

Thanks
David

welcome to the fog dave. i would love more info. im going to get one when i get the money together

Welcome to the FOG!

My guess is that images would be greatly appreciated!

for most people that work on site it is a problem bringing a long rail. then finding somewhere to put it between uses on site can be hard. if i had a easy way to align the rail i would take it apart after each batch of cuts if i wont be using it for a few hours .i often have to leave my rail standing in a corner etc with other trades in and out. most have no respect for tools.

does it fit in a systainer dave

Thats why I said if mobility is not a problem [eek], it just seems the price is heavy compared with a longer rail.

I'm thinking about the Kapex 120 with UG & extension but concerned with the extension wings not being long & wide enough OOPS off topic [tongue]
