BHC 18 use SDS Chisel?

It'll fit. But as it's a pure (hammer-)drill you can't turn off the rotation - it won't be fun, safe or practical to use.

I have Milwaukee 1 1/8" rotary hammer which has the chisel function that works great.  I install steel frames and doors, often as a replacement.  The Milwaukee is great for cleaning up the masonry after removing the existing frame.  I use a Hilti TE-72 for the big stuff.

Just used the M18 and 1-1/2” chisel yesterday to notch a post for a square stub tenon. Nice tool.

Honestly this is such a FAIL.  I've not vented about it before here as I own the BHC and love love it. It's small, handles all the jobs I can throw at it in any material (I doubt I've ever used over 10mm in it)  and is the tiniest, lightest, most comfortable SDS around.  BUT no chisel, WHY?  I wouldn't need it to be the best at all, I don't do demolition. But even the most poor of implementations would likely be a better, easier, quicker option than me head at a wall of well grouted tiles with my hammer and cold chisel.

Festool, if you are indeed listening (as Kapex and TID releases may prove you kind of are still) let's write 'adding chisel function in 5 years time' to the list please [big grin] [thumbs up]

Or if someone could invent, make and sell me an 'SDS Bit to SDS Bit rotating adapter' that would allow the chisel to remain flat. I'd take that.

Check out the Bosch adapter in my previous post, I think it does just that.

Check out the Bosch adapter in my previous post, I think it does just that.

Thanks. But I think that is an attachment for Bosch, and possibly other, drills to turn a regular drill into an SDS.

What I was imagining was essentially an SDS male to SDS female drill bit extension that would freely rotate in the centre. . .

No, it is an adapter that acts the way you describe, to use chisels in an sds drill that doesn't have a rotation-stop.


I haven't handled one myself, nor do I have a BHC (yet), so I can't say for sure that it's compatible, but I think it probably is.

I think it goes over the standard fixed chuck, and clamps onto the 43 mm handle sleeve so it doesn't rotate.

I do have a bhc 18 now, but I have not bought the accessory. (I have a dedicated corded sds plus chisel machine, bosch gsh3e)

Ha, i should have followed up years ago.

I did buy the linked (Bosch, was it?) adapter. It seemed to fit fine on the BHC, but the performance was laughably poor, suggesting it wasn’t actually compatible. Or just a useless product.

I didn’t persist even long enough to lift a single tile, it was that poor.

The BHC 18 has a maximum 1.8 J of single blow impact energy, which is plenty/ more than sufficient for what it is supposed to do, but not when you consider that such an adaptor inevitably results in additional loss of energy.

Not surprised by anyones disappointment with the combination of Bosch Professional's MV 200 and Festool's BHC 18.

As far as I understand, the MV 200 simply "kills" the rotation, probably by the shaft that lacks the notches used for rotation, and fully relies on the impact power of the rotary hammer its used on. It also has a maximum of 30 minutes "operation time", after that it needs to cool down. (Per the manual ...) It's marketed towards "remodels and restoration" so definitely more of a DIY gadget, that probably should have never worn the label of "Bosch Professional" but "Bosch Home & Garden". (I know that in some markets the green DIY tools aren't sold.)

So whoever is going to buy this, be prepared that it won't sway you off your feet - especially with low-energy rotary hammers.
