Not only must the blades and shanks be cleaned but also the bearings. The lubrication will also be removed and must be replaced. A dry blade lube on the cutting face might also be a good idea.

Another vote for simple green.  It can damage carbide if left to soak overnight, but a 15 minute soak always does the job for me.

BTW, my blade sharpener says that about half the blades he gets from hobbyists really only need a good cleaning.

CMT in a mud bucket lid for saw blades.

That works for sure...and you don't have to find a place to store that big blue Rockler tub, because it is kind of clunky.

I have been using the bucket lid for years. Best part is you can return the product to the bottle for later use. The blade is in CMT blade and bit cleaner.

I'll have to grab some of the CMT.  I just used Simple Green and it worked but took awhile

Let me rephrase the question...So,  you keep pouring the used cleaner back in the bottle?

Yes I do. Use it until it is gone from wiping the cutters dry.

If you check Simple Greens website you will see they tell you not to use the green cleaner on saw blades. I've read it affects the brazing.

They make a blue or purple you can use on saw blades.

I use the purple Simple Green (I think it's called HD or something) on blades and router bits.  I keep reusing it until it starts taking too long.  Works great.

I've used Simple Green in a pinch and it's fine, it just takes a bit longer. The CMT is just a 5-10 minute soak. This isn't a task that I want to prolong. Soak it, brush it, rinse it, get on to more enjoyable endeavors.
