Hello all,

I'm currently looking to sharpen the blade on my TS55 since replacing it is out of the question at the moment due to a tight budget. I know our blades are made by Leitz from what I last remember, and have been trying to get in touch with them on what are the procedures to send them my blade for sharpening to no avail. Does anyone have a good contact from Leitz or know of another place  I can send my blade for sharpening? I looked into Forest for their services, but for the cost of sharpening through them, I might as well save up a bit more for a new blade. Any other suggestions?

Also, I live in Houston and know my local Woodcraft offers sharpening services at a reasonable cost, but not sure of the quality. Have any of you used Woodcraft before?

Thanks.

I doubt Woodcraft actually sharpens blades. They probably have a sharpening service pick them up, sharpen them, and bring them back.

I don't know who would do that in Houston but you might just ask them.

Around here, (Austin), Cook Industrial Tool in New Braunfels is the go to place. They do a great job using proper equipment. Tim Cook is my contact there.

Circle Saw is also a Festool dealer so they should be familiar with the blades.  I have not had anything sharpened there, but everytime I visit they seem to have a line of customers taking all kinds of tools in for sharpening, so my guess is they know what they are doing.

Garland Texas is the closest Leitz to you.

When I send my tooling to Leitz Grand Rapids, I box the blades/bits, mailing label to their service department, note inside with my contact info and what is in the box. Within a week I get a call with the total cost for their service, I pay them they ship, pon my door step in less than 10 days.

Ferris Tool and Belt in Charlotte NC is awesome!!!  They have cnc sharpening equipment,  not done the old fashion way.  All there equipment is state of the art.  Definitely check them out.  There sharpening rate is 5 cents a tooth.  But worth every cent!!!

Greg M., I checked the Leitz Tooling website and there is a service center in Archduke, NC.  I don't know where that is but would assume that it is close to the furniture manufacturing area of NC.  You can find their info if you are interested at http://leitztooling.com

Just trying to be helpful.

The owner is a cool guy he took me into the back and showed me all the machinery.  Plus they carry Klingspor sander paper for my Festool Sanders.  I paided $32.00 for a 100 pack for my RO150.

Thank you, they're about 2.5 hours away.

How do you like that paper?  I'm fairly well stocked with Granat so I won't need any for a while but that's a good price.

Like Tom I usually ship my sharpening to Leitz.  They're work is excellent and shipping vs dropping off is very convenient.

Another option if you are looking local is to call and ask at a few cabinet/millwork shops to see who they use.  There are usually one or two that stand out.

I like the paper, it works great for me.  I recently had to work with some heart pine and it gums up the paper really fast.  Its a lot easier throwing away a 33 cent disc of klingspor vs 1.00 a disc festool.  I have bought rubin 2 and think its great paper,  just like the price of klingspor.  Finewooding rated Klingspor paper best overall and best value.  NOTE Festool was not reviewed.

I realize this thread is a few years old, but the topic is still relevant. When I contacted Leitz, they sent me a form to open a new account which asks for basic info. After submitting it back to them, they called asking for a Federal ID # (business) or a social security number. After explaining my reluctance to provide my social, their accounting folks wouldn't back down on the requirement, stating it's necessary for "tax purposes". I'm only looking to have a few blades sharpened, not to set up a large commercial account. I've since confirmed this requirement with with the sales guy assigned to my "account". He was nice enough to provide a few alternatives that I'd presume won't require an SSN.

That's interesting. I didn't bother with Leitz since they never returned my calls; however, I did end up sending my blade as suggested by Tyler to Ferris Tool and Belt in Charlotte NC. They where prompt and handled the process well in my opinion. Might want to give them a shot.

I experimented with the Oshlun 28 and 48 tooth blades.  I like the 28 tooth for cutting sheathing or surgical demolition - like cutting new window openings in clapboards that might have lead paint.  I thought the 48 tooth Oshlun held an edge for no where near as long as the Festool blade.
