Blu-Ray Box set review: ALIEN Anthology

Got this set for Crimbo, and I have to say it's awesome! Contains all of the ALIEN series both theatrical releases and directors cut, on which the mastering is flawless in regards to both sound and image. PLUS over 50 hours of making of footage and interviews for all films covering topics right from pitching the movie to casting the actors, sound engineering, set building creature design to fights on set! really I've only gotten through the first two films with extras so far but it's my favourite movie collection to date not only because they're cool movies but seeing all the behind the scenes stuff really makes them feel that much more special.

I've seen all the films loads of times before, my favs being the first and the last one. I'm personally not a big fan of james cameron pictures but seeing the work he did and putting the film into the context of when it was made has given me a new found respect for the picture.

it's fascinating to see the design process for such visual films like these, what was kept what was scrapped how certain things were achieved given budget and time restraints and you come out of it, or at least i do, thinking anything is possible if you have the drive to do so.

Oh and if you are a fan of Ridley Scott's original ALIEN, you might be interested in this little picture he's got coming out in a few months. His first science fiction film since BLADE RUNNER.....

I was praying it would have been filmed here as the Scott brothers own a Mega studio branch of Pinewood here in Toronto. alas it was not to be. still really excited to see Prometheus none the less. would have been a dream come true if I got to work on it though, I'm sure you understand.

The first and second Alien movies are amazing.
I never get tired of watching them.

Not a big fan of the other movies that came after.

I will definitely go and see this new Ridley Scott movie on the big screen.

I am also looking forward to Total Recall...

the first is the best IMO. the third is my least favorite. though I'll give it another watch and I'm interested in the behind the scenes stuff. interstingly enough, there's a link between the script writing of the original Alien, a never developed version of Total Recall, and a version of Dune that never saw the light of day, with effects concepts drafted by H.R. Giger.

I'm eager to see Total Recall as well, mainly because I worked on it but, I'm dying to see Prometheus!!!  fyi Giger is again working with Ridley  on this one.
