Hi all,

Just bought a new extractor and was thinking of buying the Bluetooth attachment for it, does anyone know if the function would work with dewalt Bluetooth batteries at all as generally most of our equipment is dewalt.

Thanks

I would presume not, but the on off switch might still be of use.
I'm picking one up just for cleanup and use with non Festool cordless.

To be compatible any batteries need a wifi receiver. Old Festool batteries will not work unless they come up with an adapter attached to the old batteries. If you are talking about cross platform, there is good probability that other manufacturers will also embrace that technology. Will it be compatible? It should, this is the best approach to get new clients/fans.

Well, Bluetooth is supposed to be universal, but Id be willing to bet Festool implemented something to keep other Bluetooth devices from connecting or triggering their vac module.

Hmm, would seem to me that its a good idea for it to be compatable, at least from a health and safety point of view.
Kind of depends on a companies values I guess.

Money first? = no.
Real bealth and safety benefits? Yes.

I confirmed with Festool that other manufacturers' bluetooth-capable tools and batteries will not communicate with the Festool vac module.

Thanks for that Shane. I did ask the same question in the announcement thread but Phil must've missed it.

It's a real shame there's no compatibility... which is one of the main selling points (and reasons) for Bluetooth. I'd hazard a guess that it'll come somewhere down the line though; but it's a major reason not to bother with it especially given Festools lacking in certain dust making cordless areas *cough* mitre saws ???

Dewalt doesn't speak German so it won't work.  [big grin]

For the record:

  • DeWalt Tool Connect (Bluetooth) does not (appear to) transmit the tool trigger status.
  • DeWalt Wireless Tool Connect (WTC; 433.92 MHz, like a garage door opener) does transmit the tool trigger status: it is a 32-bit value with the on/off status in the last bit; there is also a DeWalt remote keyfob.

Currently the 433.92 MHz WTC status message can be acted upon by a couple of official DeWalt vacuums; …but more interestingly we can receive the transmission with an ~$10 RTL-SDR USB dongle, and do something useful with the start/stop signal (ie. translating it to Makita or Festool Bluetooth speak).

Do either/both of you have DeWalt tools with the "WTC" radio support (looks like a pair of chain-links, with three radiating lines)?
