Bookcase for my mom

I just finished this bookcase for my mom. Seeing as how woodworking is just a hobby for me, I didn't have much time during the week to work on it. Just weekends and the occasional few minutes in the afternoon after work. So, it has taken a year to complete.  It is built from maple, and stands 9' tall x 7' wide.  I'm trying to put together a video of the build. If that turns out, I'll post it.

Too bad you were so tired on weekends you had to do all that great work while lying down. [poke]
All kidding aside, that is really a fine job. I bet your mom is proud and probably shows it off to all who come to her house.
You should be proud as well.

Sorry but the picture was making me dizzy.
Beautiful work.
Is the finish, dark paint with gold paint lightly spounged on?

Thank you guys. Sorry about the pic. I'm posting from my phone and have limited capabilities right now.  As for the finish, I actually sprayed on gold over all the trim. Then sprayed on a dark oil based chocolate color and immediately wiped it off to reveal the gold. It gave a nice antique finish.

That is phenomenal work!  Thanks for the photo!  I'm looking forward to the build video.

That is gorgeous! How many times did you change your game plan over that year?

Thank you. There was actually only one change. Originally, the partitions were going to be a spiral column. But I never could find a milled column wide enough for the space. So I opted to do the simple moulding leading up to the corbels.

Hey - that's cool, well done and please post the video  [cool] [cool]

Ok, U.K if you have something along these lines post it up and lets see your work!!

I think it would have an overkill to use the spirals.  The actual results are not over done, but just the right touch.
I made a mistook and showed your prject to my wife.  she loves it.  No more said!

Gorgeous work.  It appears your Mom has 12ft ceilings.  I suspect this was a bear to move.  I love the backer board color contrast with the green and gold.  Well done.

I'm trying to post more pics.

Ok, things seem to be working now.  So the finish... I used HVLP.  I primed and then painted the trim gold.  Then I painted it black, followed by a dark, chocolate color.  I then wiped it off to reveal the gold.
