Brand new 1400 router... commutator flashes like a lighthouse when router stops.

I have just taken delivery of a new 1400 router. Naturally I ran it up on all speeds as soon as I opened the box. I noticed that there is a bright flash inside the body, around the commutator, every time the router stops, on all speeds but the lowest. It is somewhat alarming,  [unsure] and I can find nothing about this in the manual.

My query is simple.

Does this flashing have anything to do with the electronic brake? If so, is this another idiosyncrasy of Festool tools, (like the plunge saw being inherently 'noisy'), or is this router faulty, as I suspect?

Hope someone can assist.

Thanks in anticipation.

Hookie,

Since we do not have the EBQ model here with the brake, I'm not sure if you're seeing something that's resulting from the brake or possibly the brushes are just not yet conformed to the armature in the motor.

If you have a concern, I'd contact Festool UK for assistance directly. Remember that you're protected by a warranty, which I believe is 3 years in the UK.

Thanks Shane.
Just thought I'd see if this is a problem or an idiosyncrasy. I'll contact Fest, uk!
All the best

Just an update, for anyone who is wondering over the same thing.

I contacted Festool UK and was informed that the flashing is normal; it is an indication, the brake has 'engaged'.
I feel somewhat foolish now, but the fact is,  I couldn't find mention of this in the manual. So felt it best to check.

HTH anyone else.
Regards
Hook.  [smile]

No reason to feel foolish! I'm new with Festool and woodworking and end up researching a ton on line and asking questions too. You pay a lot of money for a professional grade tool and many sounds I hear or motions I make with my new tools is sometimes quite literally a surprise. Totally different from the other brands of tools I've been using for years. True sign of quality  ;D The guys here are great at answering my questions, Chris

Thanks Chris.. Your observations are just as I have found, with regard to FOG and to Festool!

Take care.  [smile]
