Brand new Kapex can't get to 45 degree bevel

Hello,
I just purchased the kapex miter brand new and received it last night. I was setting it up and noticed when I position the bevel knob to "0-45", the saw cannot get to 45 degrees when leaning to the left. The saw stops at 42degrees. When I try and force it to go further, I hear this scraping sound like metal scraping metal as it slowly gets to 45. What could be causing this?  The scraping sound seems to be coming from the rearend area., where its be eking from, but I cannot see the problem.
When the Knob is on "47" or "45" in both directions, I do not have this problem and can get to 45 on both sides no problem. Need help, thank you.

(ps, I did email this to festool, but figure I try and post here to see if I can get a faster response.)

First, welcome to the forum.  I haven't experienced that with mine.  I might suggest that you call Festool - sometimes having a conversation while you are in front of your saw helps to get a resolution quicker than trading emails.

The saw only tilts one way in the 0-45 setting.  I assume yours doesn't go both ways in that setting.  So the issue is that when you tilt it the one way in that setting it only goes to 42 but if you change it to 45-45 then tilting it that same direction it will go to 45 just fine.

My saw did the exact same thing you described. On 0-45 setting it would get hung up at 43 degrees but would easily go to 45 on the other two settings.

I sent it out for service and it came back without any improvement at all. I had to send it immediately back and it got fixed the second time around. I was without the saw for over three weeks total.

Man, that's not good. I might have to try and see if I can return this for a different one. Will try and tinker with it a little more to see if I can figure out the issue.

And Peter,
Yes, saw does not tilt both ways on 0-45 setting. Just can't get it to 45.
But can get it to 45 on the other settings no problem. Very strange.

I know this may sound obvious, so apologies if it comes across as questioning your knowledge of the saw. Is it hitting the fence? The fence can slide back and forth.

Don't think it can be the fence Shane as he states he can get to 45 degrees if he puts it on 45-45 or 47.

Yeah, Garry, was thinking maybe the fence was moved between changing the bevel setting. Just a shot in the dark on my part.

Definitely wasn't hitting the fence. It would stop at 43 and with a little force it would go to 45 but it made a horrible scraping sound and you could actually see the green bevel selector knob being pushed up.

I also noticed the first time I got it back the lift up lever to bevel had nice tension to it and would snap shut. Now there's almost no tension and it feels kind of floppy.

One thing I'll add is they did take care of a bunch of things I didn't even ask for. They replaced the armature, inserts, and my cracked dust shroud piece. Shipping was covered all ways and it was over a year old. At the time you were supposed to pay shipping to them after the first year.

Lester and the guys in service do an incredible job, for sure. I saw Rotex sanders come in that looked like they had been seriously abused that would go back out looking brand new. They really go above and beyond, with incredible turn around times.

If you take a close look at this picture you can see have the bevel stops work.  The picture is from the back of the saw with the plastic cover removed.  At the top of the pic you can see the bevel knob with a spring loaded pin coming down.  This pin hits stops on the 0-45 setting.  My saw would drag making a slight scraping sound in the 0-45 setting like yours, and it worked itself out after a little use.  If yours is more than a slight scraping then a call to Festool may be in order.

Wonder why they replaced the armature... [dead horse] [tongue]

Definitely was not the fence.
I will call and see if they can walk through a fix, if not, I was considering returning it for a different unit, but I need to use this saw next week for an interior job, so will work around the issue for now and will contact to get this thing repaired after. I didn't realize festool offered free shipping on repairs :)

Many thanks to all, for all the comments and help
