Brand new Kapex malfunctioned

I was trying to cut crown molding when the blade started into the wood but then would not go any deeper.  I stopped the blade and when I pulled it up, the dust extractor that covers the blade had been almost sawed in half and was just dangling on the side.  Also, the chip deflector boot flew off somewhere and I cannot find it.  Has anyone had this problem?  Festool said to send it back since it was within the 30 days.

Is it possible that the notching/trenching lever was flipped?

Or, that one of the fences was slid over so far that the saw touched it when lowered?

No I am sure the lever was set at the top to make a complete cut and the fences were out of the way.  I always do a test before I actually make the cut - slide the saw forward and pull the blade down to check the cut with the lasers.

I'm sure the guys in service were thorough with troubleshooting over the phone. Those are the two things that come to mind.

If you need any assistance getting it replaced, feel free to contact me. Sorry for the bad experience.

Hi Shane, I am having trouble with Beaver Tools refunding my money for the Kapex miter saw I returned within 30 days.  I have a feeling they sent me an older model saw because the boot that flew off was different than the one on the Kapex now.  I had watched the you tube video that showed the boot would just slide off.  Not the case with the saw I purchased from Beaver Tools.  The saw was returned in the original box, I wrote the return number on the box and Beaver had the saw picked up by Fedex.  Beaver Tools called me when they received the saw and even questioned me why I didn't want a replacement.  When I asked about the refund they said they didn't know??? They have not responded to my claims to Paypal and American Express.

Any help you can give me would be greatly appreciated.

I'm sure Shane will help you get this straightened out quickly.  I'd suggest calling Festool Monday morning, although I'd be surprised if they get in touch with you first.

Hi I had the same experience last week. Though mine was actually cut right through. At the time I thought it was user error because a potential new crew member on a day trial  did it. Now I'm not so sure. Straight out of the box we had some serious kickback and it split the insert plate.

I recommend calling Festool service.

I ordered a new saw from another company and it is definitely different from the saw I received from Beaver Tools.  Have not had a problem with the new saw and in fact has the same boot as shown in the youtube videos.  I think there is a problem with Beaver Tools, at least in my case, sending me an older model of the Kapex.  Plus, not refunding my money when the saw was returned meeting all their specifications.  To have to file a complaint with paypal and American Express to refund my money is inexcusable and I should not have not had to do so.  My money should have been refunded immediately - no questions asked.

Hi

This makes me wonder...... Two versions of the Kapex 120 ???  ???
Old vs. New, what's the differences?

There is only one version here.

Then how do you explain the difference in the rubber boot on the original Kapex I had and the one I have now?  The original one was black and I could not remove it.  The one I have now is the boot is much larger, more flexible and easily removed.

One version doesn't mean they haven't made minor improvements.  Can you post a picture of the boot on your saw?

Hi

Did a quick google picture search and found pictures with a grey rubber dust shroud with a black clip. I also found pics where the rubber is black but the clip is black. Hard to tell if there is a difference in size.  ???
