Well, as if Festool was not enough, today I jumped off the Bridge City cliff...ordered a DJ2 drilling guide, extra bushings and the accessory jaws and a kerf maker.  Added my name to the list for a square and will likely get in line for a couple of other tools.  Have been wanting a DJ for sometime and missed the last window...they still had a few left.  Anyone use the tenon maker gauge?

You will like the DJ1 and Tenonmaker.  I have both.  Just completed a jewelry box with dividers and the Tenonmaker makes sizing half laps so easy.

Another slope you are gliding down!

haha, could have said "another slope you are gilding down" implying you are dropping gold leaf as you fall cuz it is about as inexpensive as that  [eek]

Nice choices.

I love all their squares and bevel gauges. While working on Angle Madness, I find I have 2-3 bevel gauges out with different settings.

If you have more of that gold leaf laying around, there's an eBay auction for the only existing prototype of the VP-60 variable-pitch plane going on now.  Only $3,185 at this time; over in 7 hours.  Will be interesting to see..

I saw the post on that plane...would be pretty cool to own, but that much glad leaf could buy a couple of other Festools and Bridge City tools.  I have to say BCTW takes art and function to a new level.  I just like looking at them.  Now if these smell as good as new Festools then I am really going to be in trouble!

Neil...thanks for your post.  Do you also use the Kerfmaker or just the Tenon Maker?

Paul-Marcel - do you have the Tenon Maker?  I tried to see if you had any vids.  BCTWs is good, but it seems like they both can accomplish the same end result, just measuring off of a different part.

Thanks.

I have a video on the KM-1 but not the TM-2.  I have some advanced uses for both outlined for a video, but keep waiting until I make the list long enough :)  I put that back on my list of videos to do last night.

They are made for different purposes.

Tenon Maker measures the width of a mortise and, along with a setting of your cutter width, gives you an offset to cut the two shoulders of an exactly matching tenon for the mortise.

Kerf Maker measures the thickness of stock and, along with a setting of your cutter width, gives you an offset to cut the two _inside_ shoulders of a groove that exactly fits the stock.

They are complementary.  With the TM-2, you can make a tenon from an existing mortise.  With the KM-1, you can make a groove/mortise from an existing tenon/panel.

I actually doubt anyone has any of their tools.:) they have never had for sail any of the awsome stuff that I want. It is either sold out, not being sold any more, or coming at some time in the future after time travel.....which is good for me because I would be buying that stuff too.:(

haha nice way to twist that into a benefit!

Once you buy something, you'll get notification of new things and can pre-order.  The whole 'pre-order' window stuff makes obtaining the stuff more challenging.  Usually that first item is a pre-order you happened to hit, like those 5 new squares which closed pre-order last Monday... but you could be way up front on the wait list for the extras!  Other benefit: you wait until the tool are made and shipped.  I've received boxes from them and it was like xmas because I couldn't remember what it was!

Festool retain a lot of value when resold.  Bridge City stuff usually increases in value.  At least that what I tell myself.

I have resorted to eBay. At least I know there is a chance to get what you are looking at.:)

Grrrrr!!!  >:(

I'm already draining my bank accounts after sucking the Green Koolaid, and now I find this thread!  [crying]

After watching both Bridge City's, as well as Paul's videos on the KM-1, I had to order it while it's in stock. Won't see it until I get back to my house in September, but at least I'll have it before it's back out of stock.  Trying very hard not to suck up the Koolaid on this company as well.  [scared]

Oh, and Paul... do us all a favor and stop making all those damn incredible tool review videos!  I already told you in a comment on YouTube that "YOU WIN"! Now you're just trying to make me go broke! [tongue]

Bridge City Tools are incredible in both terms of quality and also appearance.  Once again I am on the ropes about selling my DJ-1 along with the original set of supplemental jaws which are different than the set currently offered.  Just like so many of you I am beginning to look at what gets used and doesn't, and I think that I might have used this to drill 6 or 7 test holes only.

Sell or keep?

Remember the gold-leaf you were mentioning?  I also got notified that one of those beautiful squares that I thought I was going to have to waitlist for they actually squeezed me in somehow... ;D

I dunno, Peter -- tough call.  Personally I would keep it since it is so useful of a jig and when you need it, you need it.  You already own it and they make them less than once a year...I have waited for two years to acutally buy one since other tools had priority, but it is something that I have wanted for a long, long time...get it on Thursday when I get home from a business trip and cannot wait!  But, if it is something that just does not fit into your workflow, then you could argue that it is a waste of resources and might as well sell it to someone who would get more benefit out of it.

Ah, now I put the two together :)  Fortunately (?) I don't do many reviews of Bridge City stuff since if I have it in my hands, the one run is over.  The KM-1 and TM-2 are exceptions since they are part of the essentials series they occasionally remake.  You won't regret the KM-1.  While it doesn't increase in value quite like, say, a special-edition plane, if you ever decided you didn't like it, you could wait until they are out of stock and sell it for $20 more :)

Peter: dunno if you should sell or keep, but you likely have the original jaw set including the pinwheel jaw. That set is no longer made; the new version of the set removed a number of the more interesting jaws because "nobody uses them".  Oddly enough, I've used all those and not so much the regular jaws.  If you decide to sell it, sell them as a pair.  Search eBay's completed auctions; probably 2 months ago there was the jaw kit sold alone.

(and thanks for the compliments, SittingElf and promark)
