Hello,

I am building a large built in.  I am using 3/4 ply on the left, right and top.  The depth is say 27 inches.  The width is 10 feet.  I have two 5 foot pieces of 3/4 ply.  Do you think say 4 or 5 6mm dominos will hold the two five foot pieces together while I lift and install on the ceiling ?  There are two vents cut and I could put a Bessey clamp to hold the pieces.  Also, I will have added 1/2 inch edge banding.  I think it should be okay.

There is a 3/8 gap all around and I thought about laminating a 3/8 inch piece of hardwood and using 12 mm doMinos into the what would 1 1/8 inch end.

Once it is in place there won’t be any issue.

It is going to get heavy, so a helper is advised.

I would use a third piece of plywood about 2’ x 8’ and place it under the joined pieces.  Lift using the 2’ x 8’ to support the joint. 

Drive in your fasteners and let the 2’ x 8’ piece down. 

A couple of 2” x 8” x 8’ framing lumber would work just as well.

Regardless if it is dominoes or dowels, if you try to lift those joined sheets, there is a good chance you will delaminate the plywood at the joint.

On the second thought, you can rent a scissor lift designed for attaching sheetrock to the ceiling.  I am thinking that is a preferred approach.

Is this cabinets or what?  If so its going to be heavy so lots of helpers or lifting devise. Or I would built as 2 pieces or more depending or door layout.  A drawing of what you are building would help.

By yourself, without a panel lifter, not a chance. The seam will split. With a couple of people and some care, it should be manageable. As you indicated, once installed, it will be fine.
