That's upsetting. Hopefully it's covered ... but even so, I hate the waste and damage caused by poor quality delivery workers - I've seen some real jerks over the years.

Was the plastic the only thing protecting it?  If so, then I think that's poor packaging.  If I ever buy a Sysport, I will buy one from a store where I can inspect closely, as there have been too many cases like yours.

I've only ordered a very few of my Festoys for delivery.
Those have been thru "Uncle Bob."
It takes a little extra time to open his packages, but if there were ever any damage from transport,
It would have been deliberate.  his packaging has been so protective, i think i could have battered with my backhoe
and not caused any damage.

The vast majority (all but one) of my Festool goodies came from Uncle Bob, too, and despite the outer packaging sometimes looking like apes had used them for basketball practice, not one thing, not even the guide rails, has ever been damaged in shipping due to the way his fulfillment people do their packing.  It's sad to see that some dealers don't take the effort to protect their goods as well.

I am in the opinion the the sysport, is a drop ship item directly from Festool, I am unaware of any dealer stocking this piece, as it would be a large item price wise for them to hold in inventory. My sysport arrived damaged from Festool and strangely in about the same location as shown above. My thought when I calmed down is its cosmetic, and it works fine .
Not defending any delivery company in this as I have found both of them damage stuff on a regular basis.

Bob's packaging borders on the ridiculous!  [laughing]

This is NOT a bad thing!

there was absolutely nothing protecting it but the cardboard box. No internal packaging at all. any drop and it is getting damaged. The poorest of packaging and they are that heavy they should be on a mini pallet.

I have requested a new one and sent off photos. At AUD$1000 each its a fair whack of cash to hand over for a trolley with wheels........... maybe if is was a $50 filing cabinet you would put up with it.

Further to this..... the second one had a broken locking mechanism. It had dislodged itself (again probably in transit) once you pull out the drawer the mechanism would close shut and you could push the drawer back in!!! That one i managed to manhandle it back into place but thats two strikes in my book.........

I stock the SYS-PORT for local delivery. I also deliver them personally and help set them up to ensure that everything is in order.

The wall of Sysports at Festool's training center in Indianapolis are all returned/damaged Sysports. I got the impression that they see a fair share of these returned due to damage.

At $700 a piece here in the US, I'd have a hard time "living with the damage".

Never realized that this was a widespread problem.  Almost came close to ordering some myself.  I think I'll save the money and build my own version of the sysport using melamine or mdf.

DANG!!!  [scared]  That's a whole heap of damaged Sysports!!!  You'd think that maybe someone would ask why there were so many damaged and change the way they're packed and shipped.

I purchased my Sysports through Bob Marino, they were drop shipped by truck (freight) from Festool IN to me in NV. Festool did an outstanding job palletizing the shipment, shrink wrap, corner protectors, strapping - all arrived in perfect shape. For the cost, I would have accepted nothing less.

Earlier I purchased a Sysport on ebay, it came in trashed! However I was able to use the drawers from that one on my new Sysport fleet, so it worked out OK for me.

The Sysport "packaging" is ridiculous if they are to be shipped by UPS or Fedex. They are huge and heavy, and seem to always get damaged if shipped this way. I encourage anyone (in the USA anyhow--) looking to buy these to have them shipped from Festool Indiana by truck (freight), or get them from a stocking dealer if you can.

I wish you luck with your return or credit or however this works out for you - these are a chunk of change and should arrive in perfect shape!

Just for fun, here are pics of my damaged Sysport, notice the lean to the right!!

Slightly off-topic, but big favour to ask...

Are any SYSPORT owners willing to do some measuring for me?   [unsure]

Interested in the following dimensions. I've tried to draw on a photo to make it easier to provide them. Hope it works

A = Width of entire front "handle"
B = Length of side piece
C = Length of interior space
D = Width of side support piece
E = Width of cutout in "handle"
F = Width of side section of "handle"
G = The same as B! Disregard...
H = Height of side piece
I = Width of interior space
J = Depth of front "handle"
K = Height of lip on front "handle"
L = Thickness of side pieces
M = Height of back piece
N = Depth of front interior piece (can't draw easily on picture)

[attachimg=#]

If someone is kind enough to do this, please accept my eternal thanks.

I'm obviously making storage and am playing with drawer designs and want to know the measurements the manufacturer thinks are best. Promise to post pictures of finished project!  [big grin]

Kind regards,

Garry

I had some Amex points I wanted to burn so I ordered a Sysport from Amazon.

Arrived in cardboard with no pallet and was damaged.

Called Amazon and they wanted to ship a replacement and pick up the damaged unit.  I indicated I would only agree if they palletized the replacement for protection on the lower corners where the first unit was damaged.

Second unit arrived - no pallet and damaged with an even bigger dent in the corner.

I returned it and purchased from Woodcraft locally where they stock the units and would let me inspect and help put it in my car.

Lesson learned on these large items.  It's a serious packaging miss from Amazon and likely any other supplier that you don't get clear agreement on how it should be shipped.

Never redeemed the Amex points...  Maybe a Carvex now!

Here you go Garry...

Everything in mm

A = 425
B = 355
C = 298
D = 58
E = 172
F = 126

H = 66
I = 397
J = 20
K = 25
L = 7
M = 49
N = 33

Incidentally, "F" is likely actually 126.5 but I rounded.

This may be odd for most of you to understand, but I actually have a standing order that Festool can never send me an undamaged Sysport. It's even a running joke. A couple years ago I raised heck when I discovered one of them I picked up in Indiana was brand new and undamaged.

They are heavy and bulky, so freight carriers will damage them if they aren't careful. But most of the time it is just cosmetic.

Just 2 weeks ago I finally got around to setting up the 6th and 7th Sysports in my shop. The 7th was actually the worst I've ever got because the cabinet was racked about 1/2" out of square. But it only took 60 seconds to re-square it with a pipe clamp across the corners. Cosmetic dents come out in just a few seconds with a deadblow hammer.

The way that I see it, is that it's a workshop, not an art gallery. So I don't mind getting Sysports that aren't perfect.

Garry, It's too bad you are in the UK. I was planning on selling an entire set of drawers. I'm surprised you don't find them for sale more often. The Sysports come with 5 drawers, but most of the time all you need is 4 drawers. So most people that have a Sysport probably have a left over drawer they don't use. If you could ever find a full set, you could build your own sysport around them.
