Can I add legs to Festool CMS VL Table?

Hi,

I'm moving my wood shop into space that is not conducive to having the CMS VL connected to the MFT table.  Am I right in thinking that it is possible to buy two more legs and connect them to the CMS VL table so that it can then be free-standing and separate from the MFT table? Any other solutions that I should consider?

Thanks for the help.

Neil

[member=63466]Nabraham[/member], welcome to the forum.

It is not possible to add two more legs.

The CMS VL is actually different dimensions from the CMS GE, so the legs are not compatible. You could potentially fabricate something, or use a cleat or other bracket on a wall to support it.

Thanks for the reply. Can't I just buy two more of the legs that CMS VL comes with and put them on the opposite end of the table? They seem to be available on the Festool spare parts catalog.

I don't think so. [member=57769]TylerC[/member] can verify.

You can add legs, but it will require two more corner brackets and one long side profile. And after that you will not be able to fold those legs as they will interfere with each other (VL is two short).

Try buying an MFT side rail and wall mounting it so you that you would not need two more legs. Could probably build a hinge mount wall bracket that folds up with the MFT side rail on it. Add an angle support and you will be good to. You probably need a little projection from the wall to access everything.

I have the CMS-GE and built a base for it. It's very sturdy and a big improvement on the Festool legs. I don't need a router table that is portable so it stays in the workshop.

I have seen on the FOG where the CMS-VL was used on a workshop built base, but I can't locate the page...

Thank you everyone for your responses. The wall-mounted MFT rail sounds like the most pragmatic solution given my circumstances.

The profile is different on that end of the VL. Anything is possible, but it might be really rickety.

Order a profile and attach it to a workbench or wall. I will say it isn't ideal, but can be done. I love my VL connected to my MFT. Very good for my purposes, but if you have to break it down all the time to store it, you might as well just get the GE.

Cheers. Bryan.

I bought work bench legs from Amazon. They were heavy steel and had some degree of adjustment. I used them to add an extension to my MFTs to hold a heavy woodworking vise. They were not expensive and I am most pleased with the results.
