Project is exterior shiplap siding in meranti or philipine mahogany.

I will use Penofin's Hardwood formula or Cabot Australian Timber Oil.

The meranti is kind of light colored pinkish and yellow. I want it to have a dark mahogany look. Can I add pigment to any of these products?

Thanks,

I would imagine you could, it should be tintable but check with a good ma and pa paint store, don't go to that Bozo HD or Lowes. Cabots is better IMO.

Eiji,

Cabot already has a mahogany base......

If you want to get it darker than that make sure the pigment you use is colorfast (especially concerning reds)

Do a test first on your meranti, using the above already tinted base, let it cure a while.....than add pigment if you need to.

If your going to make your own, your better off using their tinting bases than using their straight oil.

They are formulated to take pigments.

hope that helps,

Roger
