Can I attach the Extension Set KA-UG-KS 60 directly to the KAPEX KSC 60?

Hi!

Is it possible to attach the Extension Set KA-UG-KS 60 directly to the KAPEX KSC 60 without the Portable Stand or Adapter plate UG-AD-KS 60?

With the KS 120, the extension attach directly to the saw so it's possible to use the extension set without the portable stand. For example, you can place the saw on a table and connect the extension set without an issue.

I am not sure whether that is possible with the KSC 60, which is exactly the use case I would like to have. The portable stand is too bulky for me. I would like to be able to just place the saw anywhere and connect the extension set directly to the saw. I haven't seen a picture showing that setup. I am also not sure how the scales work in this case.

Thanks!

I don’t think you can without having the adapter plate. It’s a poor design for what is a really great saw, I ended up getting the wheeled cart to go with the wings for my 120. I don’t even think the base lines up nicely with the wings if you set the saw up on a flat surface. You could probably make it work though. I would still recommend the ksc 60, it’s so light and incredibly convenient and will do 99% of your mitre saw needs. It’s honestly the best day to day moulding saw I’ve ever owned

The wings for KSC60 have different scales than those for 120. The only way to have wings on the KSC60 is with the UG Stand and the stupid, ugly, bulky, $20-looking plastic underframe, that costs $200. Nothing else works.

I bought a Kapex MFT and that doesn’t work either. If you place it on the ground still doesn’t line up. It’s pathetic for Festool, considering their ‘system’ approach.

I ended up making a rolling cart from 80/20 aluminum and the MFT extrusions. Now I can use the wings, roll it around and have systainer storage underneath.

The saw is quite nice, if you don’t need bigger depth of cut.

Ya I’m going to wind up making something for this saw as well. The way festool set up the wings with that stupid base is exceptionally poor. The plastic on it is so cheap I doubt it will last

This is what I ended up making from the Kapex MFT some 4040 aluminum and Bott Systainer rails.

I don’t have room for dedicated miter saw station in the garage, so this allows me to set it up anywhere with the wings. I can add another row of systainers on the side if needed.

The top had to be resized a bit to fit. I’m planing on making a second top that fits on the top rails, so I can remove the saw and use the cart as workbench.

Ok that’s an outstanding idea. Where do you get those aluminum pieces to mount the kapex wings to?

I think the rails were from an MFT-Kapex that was disassembled and re-built using 4040 extrusions for legs instead of the stock corner pieces.

If one wished to just make their own version of that, purchasing the rail profiles as spare parts would be significantly less expensive than purchasing the entire MFT/Kapex and discarding the corners and legs.  If one already had an MFT/Kapex and wanted to modify it, the sunk cost is already addressed.

Ya I’ll look for the mft rails as that would be better. Otherwise might look at modifying a mft extension instead. I reread his comment and does seem like he took apart a kapex mft

I have purchased a used Kapex MFT expecting it to work with ksc60 and the underframe. It turns out the underframe doesn’t fit without drilling new holes in the mft top, and the height is off.

I found this 4040 locally for $50 per 8ft piece, and thought to give it a try. It will be significantly cheaper to order one MFT extrusion and cut it in half for the sides. 4040 can be used for the front and back pieces.

The original scales on the wings will be off. The KSC60 fits off center on the Kapex MFT top
