Can Kapex motor be damaged by incorrectly installed power cord?

A little while ago my dealer installed a new cord for me. I just tried to use the saw for the first time since then and it just makes a straining sound and trips the breaker.

Was the cord installed incorrectly? Is the saw now damaged?
Thanks,
Erik

I would think that if they switched the hot and the neutral, it would trip the breaker because the hot is now going straight to ground through the saw.

Thanks for the reply Tom. Do you think there might be any damage as a result of this?

So I brought the saw back to the dealer today, they tried to switch the hot and neutral and the saw kept blowing circuits as soon as you pull the trigger.

He talked to someone at Festool to get permission to swap it for a new saw, but apparently needs to talk to someone else at Festool tomorrow morning to get the permission.

I'm getting sort of tired of not being able to use my saw. (It's been back to Festool 3 times already)

I don't think swapping the hot and neutral will solve anything.

I suspect the brake is stuck on (just a guess) and the saw is drawing to much current trying to rotate the blade.

Erik:

Dan makes a very good point... Why did your cord get changed? Your original post talks of "straining".

Tom

They replaced the cord because it was damaged the last time it was sent in to Festool. You can see my post about it here:

Maybe it is the brake stuck on. I don't know. I do know that I'm in the middle of a job that I need a saw for, as I was the last three times the saw spent a week or two in transit to and from Festool. I'm at the point where I really don't want to have to be without my saw while it's being sent in for repair yet again.

I try to earn a living woodworking and this kind of equipment failure and service failure are a hindrance to that end.

thanks for listening
Erik

Does your dealer have a demo saw he can lend you while yours is out for service?

I wanted to let you know that Festool agreed to give me a new saw today, so I'm happy about that. I'm going to try it out tomorrow.

You could turn the saw blade on my old one by hand as easily as their demo, so I think that would indicate that there wasn't a stuck brake, but I'm no expert on Kapex repair. It doesn't really matter to me anymore what was wrong, I'm just hoping the new one is okay.
