My wife and I worked together all weekend on a project. Late Saturday, she turned around wrong after setting the TS55 down on the MFT, caught the dust collection hose, and jerked the TS55 off the MFT onto bare concrete. The saw spun and bounced around the garage like oil on a hot hibachi griddle. The result seems to be that the baseplate was significantly bent. It doesn't seem out at first glance, but now the saw rocks back and forth when you set it on a flat surface. Since this is the only way to reference the blade square, this is obviously a Big Darned Problem and has to be repaired. With no other choice (it's our only saw), we finished the project since square edges weren't terribly important (it's a lumber rack). The saw seems to be entirely fine other than the baseplate being bent.
Now, obviously, I could box the saw up and ship it off to Festool and that's an option I'm going to explore. However, I fear that, since this is not a warranty claim, the cost and time will be more than I can really afford. The part itself is ~$60 on EKAT. It's part 77 (P/N 494589) in the explosion diagram, if anyone's interested. I'm an auto mechanic by trade, so ripping things apart and putting them back together isn't really a big deal to me. The bigger issue is that I have no service manual for the TS55. That means I can't look through it to see if this is a realistic thing to do. There's a lot of little bits and pieces that are attached to the baseplate. Just look at the explosion diagram and I think you'll see what I'm worried about. Do all the parts easily transfer to the new baseplate or am I going to be pulling my hair out on this one?
