CBN grinding Wheel

I was reading a series of posts about CBN grinding wheels. The D-Way wheels look good. Anyone have experience with them?

I have a Baldor slow speed grinder with white wheels. I’ve tried balancing them with some success, but the D-Way wheels look awesome.

My enthusiasm for CBN wheels is based on the use of a D-Way wheel. When I bought it a few years ago that was the only source I could find.

I use an 8” wheel on a an orange 6” HF grinder (with whatever D-way bushing it took). The grinder needs help getting up to speed (I just sweep the wheel with my hand) but once it’s going the results are great.

I've used a D-Way 8" fine CBN that I purchased in 2012 at the AAW annual woodturning symposium after many great reviews and recommendations from fellow turners.  It has been fantastic and shows no signs of degradation even with regular use.

The video I watched showed an 80 grit on one end and a 180 on the other. Is that the standard setup?

Many folks do have the 80/180 combination.  For my uses in turning, I still run one coarse friable Aliminum Oxide wheel for rough shaping and use the 180 CBN for sharpening.  If I were mainly doing flat blades for planes and chisels, I'd switch to the 80 grit / 180 grit all CBN route.
