I just finished building a kayak from western red cedar strips.  A lot of my Festools came in handy including my 1010 and 1400 routers for working on the pad eyes and the retractable skeg.  Although I did a lot of sanding with my ETS 150, the tool I used most was the RO 90 Rotex.

Along with the interface pad, it was great for sanding the curved surfaces and really worked well for the buffing and polishing after applying the finish.

My Kapex and my TS 55 were of little use, there weren’t many straight or square cuts going on  :)    There were no Dominos either !

I wrote a long winded description in my blog for a boat building forum I frequent.  Don’t feel compelled to read it all, looking at the pictures is free !

[member=70395]WarrenT[/member], that kayak is really sweet!  Congratulations on a great project.  Have you put it in the water yet?  [big grin]

Wow indeed !  Fabulous work and a great read!  Thanks for documenting the build, I passed your blog along to a friend that is in the process of building a canoe.

Congratulations!! Absolutely beautiful and amazing work. Very inspiring and thanks for sharing your journey with us. Cheers!

Simply a stunning job on the kayak... [thumbs up] ...especially for the first go-around.  [big grin]

I also really enjoyed The Great Race coverage, especially the part involving the 1955 Buick station wagon and the aqua Mustang.  [jawdrop]

I have admired cedar strip kayaks, particularly Nick Schade's designs, for years. Bravo Zulu!
Let's have a full report after her maiden cruise.

Your work is inspiring. Not only is it beautiful, you're a great storyteller. I posted a link to your stuff on Twitter.
