We would like to celebrate eclipsing the 7,000 member mark with a new contest for FOG members!  The goal is to encourage members to post useful content for the forum, and we plan on doing our part to encourage participation by giving away a few prizes along the way.

How do I enter?

Simply reply to this thread and include the following information:

  • At least one photo of your shop or work space.
  • The approximate dimensions or square footage of your shop or work space.
  • A list of which Festool tools you current use.

Optionally, we would enjoy hearing your comments about about the advantages of using Festool in your work space.  Thank you.

How will winners be selected?

Four (4) entries will be randomly selected from all entries submitted between September 17th, 2009 and October 17th, 2009.  Entries must include all of the required information listed above to be eligible.  Participants must be 18 years of age and legal residents of the United States or Canada.  Festool employees, its subsidiaries, dealers, and members of their households or immediate family members are not eligible to participate. Limit one entry per household. Odds of winning depend on the number of entries received.

Ok, the important part... What can I win?

You will have your choice of one of the following products which will also be available as Fall 2009 promotions in October and November of this year.

  • (1) Systainer 2 with Attic Storage (496153), a $70 value.

FAQs

This section will be updated as need to answer questions.

  • If I have already uploaded a photo of my shop in another thread, do I need to do it again?  Yes, for the purposes of this contest you can use the same photo but it must be posted in this thread.

Shane et all.

Congratulations on breaking the 7000 mark. Great idea about the contest!

Bob

Hold on, guys, I think you're jumping the gun a little here!

The correct number of registered users is at the top of the member list (now at 6624).

The number on the front page is not correct. This happens with most forum software because the front page counter isn't able to subtract registrations that are later deleted for whatever reason.

Bringing this up probably didn't help my chances of winning a prize.  ;)

Here's my shop..

I have (10) MFT/3's, (30) sysports, a couple of each tool that Festool makes, and you can see when I am running low on consumables, I can walk around the corner and pick out what I need from my storage supply.  A little humor for you guys..  Since I don't have pictures of my shop and I can't take any because I'm in the middle of a move, I figured I would do a little day dreaming. ;D ;D ;D

Wow, Chris, that's quite a shop! I am  envious. Shane, I THINK IS GOING TO BE A VERY INTERESTING  CONTEST!

Bob

Yummy, that's some shop you have there Chris. Is it all for yourself or do you have to share it with employees?

Sigh, I don't really have a shop. After seeing Chris' shop I wouldn't even dare to show my shop .... err .... that is .... backyard :(

I'm just outfitting a new shop and will hopefully be up and running by the end of next week! Will then post pictures.
BTW, nice shop Chris! Mine is is just a quarter of yours :P

Hi, my shop is a 3 car garage.  I keep enough open space to be able to park a car in the garage when I'm not working on a large project.  The Garage is 31 feet by 19.5 feet, for a working area of approximately 600 sq ft.

Here are the Festool tools I use;
1st - RS2/E half sheet sander.  My first Festool and my start down the path towards the light.
2nd - RO150, I use this mainly when I need a really aggressive sander or when I have a larger area and need to remove stock quickly
3rd - ETS 150/3, my favorite, gets most of the use in my shop
4th - RTS400, great dust collection, not not in te same class as the three above.  I'd be happy to pay more for 1/4 sheet sander as smooth as the ETS 150/3
5th - Domino, great tool, fantastic precision.  I haven't used a biscuit jointer since I got the Domino, and that was the first day they shipped.
5th - TS75, I use this to break down sheet goods.  Should have bought the TS55 but the TS75 had some minor improvement over the TS55 so I bought it.  I think if I swapped for a TS55 I'd use it more
6th - T15+3 Drill kit  Just got it, REALLY nice build quality.

Here are some pictures.

Nice shop, guys!  Chris,  I noticed you have the legs of your Excalibur sliding table outfitted to stow the fence.  That's a great idea! I never know where to put mine.  Did you make them yourself or are they Excalibur accessories?  Also,  why 3 fences?

That to all for the nice words.  I didn't take time to organize when I tooks those shots.  Someday when I've cleaned up I'll take some proper shots.

Chris, great photos, and very nice shop.

My favorites are your storage, your dust collection system, and that General mortiser, what a beauty!

Joe, it's hard to believe you've packed all that good stuff in your garage, and can still get the car in.

I love the DeWalt RAS. What year is that?

I am drooling at those shops.  I am a weekender, set it up, tear it down.  Festools is the perfect tools for me.  The MFT's go up, the systainers roll out, and when I am finsihed, or the wife informs me I'm finished, they all neatly fold up and roll into the corner.  To have a 3 car garage or 2,400 feet, omg, I would be in heaven .... I'd take 800 feet of permanate space.

The basement is what I can more closely relate to, although Chris's shop is my new "fantasy."  My basement shop is just one corner, I have managed to move my TS to the garage and as long as I can move it out of the way my wife lets me get away with that.  Spending more time moving and setting things up than actual work is such a PITA.  Some day I hope to get rid of all my mobile bases.

Chris's shop is bigger than my 4 bedroom house.... :'(  Shop envy.   Wow, looks like a dream shop to me.  I'm stuffed into a one car garage along with all our house hold junk err, precious saved stuff.

Funny, Mark...

I want to make sure this isn't perceived as a contest based on who has the biggest or most impressive shop.  Let's face it, we have a wide variety of folks who make up this online community.  A guy crammed into a one car garage, a guy who works out of his van and a guy with a 3,000 sqft megashop are all equally capable of being randomly selected as winners.  The purposes of this contest so members can share their shop environments, get ideas from one another and to see how Festool fits into their shop.  Personally, I think our products work extremely well when there is limited space.  I think for all of us, we are constantly looking for ways to improve our work space to become more efficient and to make better use of the space available.  Over the years, I have seen a lot of innovative uses of space posted in various threads here.

So, let's see more shops!  ;D

I do too Shane, my primary work space is about 130 sqft! You'd be surprised at what you can do with only a MFT and few (okay, I have a lot) of Festool tools. You don't don't have to have large stationary power tools or a ton of space to make great projects.

So, who else has a small shop or workspace, lets see it.

One of the things that was mentioned in Lebanon recently was something about ideas for small shops.  Perhaps Shane could or would elaborate if it isn't too soon to do so.  I won't because it think it was / is something in process.  It is interesting how the pipeline of knowledge works in two directions now.

My shop is a detached 3 car garage.  It has heating and cooling (heat in the summer, cooling in the winter).  It is about 25 ft x 35ft.  The pictures caught the shop relatively clean at the start of a master bathroom and bedroom remodel.  The crown molding has been made and raw materials delivered for vanity construction.

The Festools I use are:
  • Sysports (2)
  • LS-130 linear sander
  • CDD-12 drill
  • RO-150 rotex
  • ETS-150/3 sander
  • PS500 jig saw
  • Domino
  • OF-1400 router (2)
  • ATF-55 saw (sees little shop use - self explanatory)
  • CT-22 with boom arm
  • LR-32
