Centronic Bit Sets - Europe

Err... Guilty !!

I bought the set a couple of weeks ago and it's sweet...

It's nice as I can just drop my festool stuff from my Centronics set into it and use it as a great driver - bloody expensive, but great !

It's one nice bit of kit...

I THINK IT'S THE '07 SET

I don't think it's the 07, which is illustrated here and here. It contains about 149 pieces and bears Order No 495129.

It looks more like the 160-ish piece set that I have myself, illustrated at here, with Order No 493633. Mine didn't come with that interesting Wera ratchet though!  [wink]

Since we've touched the subject, for comparison and for future reference, here is the CENTROTEC SYSTAINER 08, Order No 495841...

...and the brand-new CENTROTEC SYSTAINER 09, Order No 497078 which has an "attic" Systainer, with parts storage in the lid:

Why can I not find these online to order.  Special Edition Limited Quantities???

I'll join Tom and Peter by asking where do you live. If you could show it in your profile, it would help answering questions like this.

It is important, because availability of Festool items depends on where you live. For example, the new CT26 and CT36 dust extractors are available off-the-shelf in the UK and other parts of the world, but may not be available in the USA in the next 12 months.

This also applies to the various Centrotec Systainers, and they are much more widely available in Europe than in the USA, where the item is not in the current line-up.

If you live in the UK, you could check local dealers to see which version(s) they have in stock. For example, Miles Tool & Machinery Centre are currrntly selling the 08 set for 157.38 GBP, whilst Rex Crystal are selling the 09 set for 214 GBP + VAT.

If you live in the USA, then you might try contacting dealers to see if they have any left over from a limited release a few years ago (a Google search reveals that AceTool was selling the 493633 version for $380, but it is shown as unavailable). eBay, Craigs List and importing from Europe are also ways to get one.

The subject of availability and suggested contents of the 09 set in the USA was discussed at length just a few weeks ago in a thread called Centrotec 09 bit set  and you will probably want to read that.

I THINK IT'S THE '07 SET

Don't think it is actually, like Forrest already mentioned. I just got the T15 so I'm looking around now to get me the right centrotec accessories and I've seen the 07 and the 09 set, but not this one here. So that's what sparked my interest. Considering the price of separate centrotec items a set might be a nice alternative, it's only a shame there's so much crap in these centrotec sets that I would never use. Like in the 09 set for instance, the 1/4'' ratchet set ......... completely useless. Waste of money. That shouldn't be in a centrotec set.

So the 07 and 09 sets are not an option for me. Too much crap I don't need and a couple of useful items I do need are missing in both. This set in Paul's picture looked like it might fulfill my needs. Until I noticed it misses the BHC 65 CE bit holder. Incomprehensible.

I find a lot about Festool's centrotec system incomprehensible. I mean, it works great ....... when you get your hands on it. Because Festool seems to make it their goal to make purchasing centrotec stuff as difficult as can be. Too little items and when you do got something you need they make you buy it twice or trice so you're wasting money on stuff you don't need.

Sorry to start about Centrotec here and hijack the TS55 thread. Didn't intend too. I just got a chip on my shoulder about centrotec at the moment and the set Paul pictured here was unknown to me so I wanted to know. Gonna write an in depth post about this in a new thread.

Putting my evil moderator mask on.  We have gone just a wee bit off topic - and I did in my posting too.  Not wanting to stop conversation, but tomorrow you might wake up and find this discussion elsewhere.

The discussion is great.  Keep going.  If you don't find it here tomorrow, just look for a post announcing where it has be moved.

Alex,

Relax.  Everyone wants ideas, conversation, etc.  I did not mean my last post at you at all.  Great conversation.  Might just move it to a place where it can blossom on its own.

I wrote it before you wrote yours Peter.  [cool] I just realised this was going off topic and that's not fair to the original poster, Paul David Thomas. But I got a couple of remarks to make that I think are better suited in the starting post of a new thread. Could call it a review perhaps. Or an editorial. But I would prefer to give my opinion about this in one good posting than a bit here and a bit there floating around the thread.

Alex - You are absolutely correct.  I will be splitting the post after I study the manual and figure how to  [scared].  It might the first post split in the recent of the FOG.  Keep going here and once I split it I will post a message her to announce the redirection.

Thanks.

Peter

Not to worry. There are so many Festool items that are not available in North America that we've got our own abbreviation for it - NAINA (Not Available in North America). You'll see the abbreviation used quite a lot!

I'll update my profile as well

Thanks! It helps us to help you!
