Centrotec drill bits in smaller and 1/2mm sizes!!!

The centrotec wood drill bits are great, but the 3mm bit is usually just too big for piloting screws. I wish Festool would make 2mm and 2.5mm sizes.

Also, 1/2mm increments would be good on the smaller sizes too (3.5, 4.5, 5.5).

On the downside, though, if they did I'd have to re-do all my attic storage...  [unsure]

The +0.5mm installer set ... only $450 [scared]

I too would like a more granular range - then I'd have less other brand stuff mixed in, in multiple small containers.

Ordered a 3mm hss with rotex other day didn't realise they didn't do smaller bits than that

Hi guys

They make 3.5, 4.5, 5.5,and 6.5 in a centrtec

Cheers

Bryan

In HSS bits yes, but not in the brad-point wood bits they don't.

True, but it's rare to find wood bits with half mm increments. Can't recall ever seen one. It is something typical for metal bits.

A few companies like Famag and Colt have bradpoint wood drill bits in ½ mm sizes and even 1/10 mm (Star-M).
The ones from Famag are made from HSS-G metal, which is very durable and stays sharp for a long time.

Hear, hear!

I want the 2 and 2,5 also, together with a 12 mm one.

I too would like a 2, 2,5, they are available in the HSS drill bit set that starts at 1mm, I'm thinking of just getting a set of spiral bits brad point  12, 15, 18 to cover that range...and some normal HSS bits from 12 up to 20.

Hi, what Centrotec drill bit set starts at 1 mm?  Is there a Festool part # for this set? Is it still available?

Thanks.

I think brad point bits in smaller than 3.5 aren't that necessary I have the HSS set and that get's me to the smallest sizes I need.

I use 3 mm thick screws all the time, which in turn makes me need to drill pilot holes with a 2 mm bit all the time.

I think the Centrotec holder is what stopping the sizes of bits going down in size, the logic being the cost of replacing a bit size that has a tendency to break doesn't make sense if the holder costs many times more than the bit. Additionally the HSS bit set that I already own runs in .5mm steps from 3mm to 6.5mm this sets have the fancy holder with the hex screw for replacing bits. This hex screw replacement being fiddly with smaller sizes makes me think just using the CXS with its toolfree chuck would be a simpler way to tackle the situation. Also the CXS is better suited to small bits anyway.

Maybe there is a need for some kind of universal holder set that kan take bits in 3 ranges from 1.5mm to 3.5, 4mm to 6mm and 6.5 to 8 mm

You can hold tapered bit in the centrotec holder by friction alone. This is how pilot bit is held inside ZOBO forstner bit. Those pilots are small, 2 mm or so.
