Centrotec O-Ring

I'm curious if the green o-ring on centrotec bits and drivers serve any purpose.  The two that I have don't touch the centrotec chuck when the bit is inserted all the way into it.  I figure it's simply there to distinguish centrotec from regular bits.  I did a quick search but didn't come up with anything.  Inquiring minds..

It's just there to look pretty.

Well, ball detents aside, they will keep the bit from sliding too far into the chuck.

That said, two of mine have already split. They're still in place, but I don't expect them to last too long...
