Charm, OH, Amish woodworking and Keim Lumber

I photographed a story for the New York Times about the Amish getting into mainstream business.  Particularly woodworking.  Take a look at the story and view the multimedia site too.  I did photos of Keim Lumber and a furniture manufacturer.  It's a pretty neat story.  Keim is a fantastic place to shop.  They have a closeout room and a lumber "cut-off" area.  There's a great shoe store right across the street too. Of course the food ain't to shabby either. There's actually a cafeteria in Keim!

we use to have a Amish furniture store close by. I believe it was made in northern Indiana, and sent down to this store in southern Indiana. I love to just walk through there and look at the quality there. It has since become an Amish mattress store, and I have yet to go see that. Mattresses just don't do it for me. They still have their awesome buffet though. I frequent that place often too.

Quite a few. They have nothing against electricity. They just don't use it in their homes and they don't buy it from the electric company. For business, just about anything goes, including phones. They are very big into solar and gas generators.

Thanks for posting the link to your story about Keim Lumber.  The opening photo shows the sales representative I worked with to purchase the lumber and plywood needed to build my Entertainment Center and Bookcases.  I can confirm the quality of their work.  I wish you had included a photo of the very large circular "Script Keim" inlay in the floor at the main entrance to their showroom, just for Nickao.  It must be 10 to 12 ft diameter.
